I worked at Fortinet full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Market leading UTM technology; strong channel and overall engaged mid-level management. Average to above-average pay; especially if you were pre-IPO.

    Cons

Upper management failed to create any type of real culture. Vp-level leadership was mostly weak. The move up-market from the SMB to Enterprise level was very clunky as marketing failed to help the company convince the marketplace that Fortinet products are Enterprise ready.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a meaningful culture that might make employees more loyal and likely to stay and spend significantly more on marketing up to the Enterprise.

    Pros

Exceptional product and easy to sell once you are in the door. Sales Engineers are great group and helpful.

    Cons

Lacks marketing and thus difficult to get in the door with customers. Team communications could be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve marketing.

    Pros

It was a great company to go public with.

    I worked at Fortinet

    Pros

    You learn a lot technically
Very diverse and intelligent customer base
    Great products
Non-executive employees are helpful and nice

    Cons

    No work/life balance
No appreciation from execs for the long hours and hard work of employees
Upper Management is very cheap - the smallest items are questioned on expense reports. There is very little money for employee development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people make your products, value them.

I have been working at Fortinet

    Pros

Cutting edge technology. Lot of progress seen in teams, so a sense of optimism exists.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic. Hard to get resources. Lower management style is stifling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is for managers and not necessarily senior management.
It is better to see the performance of an employee rather than see if he/she reads a newspaper or works from home sometimes. Sick days should be included so people dont come to work with illnesses making the rest of the team sick.
