Former Employee – worked at Fossil full-time

Pros-Work/life balance was pretty good.
-Used to make a great product.

Cons-They outperform their goals consistently, however still find excuses to not pay bonuses.
-Nepotism is the key to that promotion or job that you are more than qualified for.
-Communication is sorely lacking on so many levels it's actually comical.
-Management preaches consistency, however it is never practiced.
-They also take their "Culture and Values" very seriously, however employ Senior Management that should be invested by their own HR department for their behavior.
-If you ever meet the CEO, be prepared for your conversation to be about the numbers and not about anything on a personal level.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe bottom line is always important in business, however it should never be the only line.

Former Employee – worked at Fossil full-time for less than a year

Pros-Good discounts
-Great job fair and hiring process
-Good opportunity for recent college grads
-Nice campus

Cons-Constant corporate backstabbing
-EXTREMELY low pay compared to similar industry jobs
-Lots of employees dating each other or just hooking up
-Very disorganized training program for new hires

Advice to Senior ManagementYour managers are in constant battles with each other to impress directors and everyone is terrified of upper management. Managers constantly throw employees under the bus to cover up bad management and that behavior is imitated by employees that are trying to climb up the corporate ladder. You need to clean house with middle management.

Current Employee – been working at Fossil part-time

ProsWhen I began working for Fossil I believed it was a great experience, they got me through the interview process quickly and I was hired within two weeks.

ConsWorking for this company is terrible. District managers have "favorites" and you are expected to suck up to everyone to also be at this level. Managers are young and feel entitled to everything while they are literally pushing people around and bullying employees. Corporate does not pay attention to retail stores and when they do make their way around they thrive on the fact that they are intimidating.

Proslots of perk; tons of employees discount

ConsThe HR department need serious improvement, problematic employees are hard to discipline and managers are the ones getting in trouble because if it...too many rules that contradict themselves.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop gossiping against eachother, male managers look like little teenage girls

ProsDiscount. that is about it. free watch after 90 days if you make it that long.

Conseverything. AWFUL management. I mean starting drama, black mailing, and more. HORRIBLE hours, and by that i mean 0-4 hours a week. They want you to force clothing down people throat by filling their dressing rooms when they pick up one tank. Oh, and goals never happen. Its only a matter of time before the company stops selling clothes.

Advice to Senior Managementget new managers. people who actually know what they are doing and nice.

ProsGood discounts and you do meet some great people. Pay is decent for a college student.

ConsManagement is pushy. Sales techniques are pushy, they want you to follow the customer and harass them until they buy something or leave. Too much gossip and drama, worse than high school in my opinion. I was brought in to do floorsets and shipment and now have next to no hours because hours are based on SPH and you can't sell anything if you are in the back doing shipment or working floorsets when the store is closed. Managers don't explain to you what they want, they just saw they aren't happy with it or say that everything is wrong. This holds true especially for floorsets when the RM or DM comes in. You hear things that management has said about you behind your back, for me it was that I was a mindless folower, again worse than high school.
Lack of communication on schedule changes. I wasn't scheduled at all and then I get a call one morning telling me that I am late for my shift. I couldn't go as I made plans since I thought I was off.
Offer training, I wasn't trained at all and my first day on the floor I had no idea what was going on.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your stuff straight. Stop stifling your sales associates by not utilizing their talents. No need to coerce customers into buying product. Floorsets will not look like the picutres you send.

Current Employee – been working at Fossil

ProsShort work days,
decent pay
great discount
fun place to work depending on the manager working that day.

ConsManagement is really bad about relaying messages and news about company policy and procedure to employees.
Hours are based off SPH. Management is constantly taking sales and they dont want to hear you complain about it.
Management doesn't like to resolve conflict or issues. Shed rather you not say anything
Often forced to work past the time scheduled. Especially when closing.
To many employees. 25 employees and 5 mangers and assistant managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would advise management that they all need to get on the same page! Don't ignore your associates and don't wait 5 weeks to address a problem.

ProsGreat discount
Most sales associates are nice and energetic

ConsHere I at firstbwas thrilled to recieve a call informing me that I was being offered the job ay Fossil...seeing this as my first job in retail i thought it would be a great learning experience. BOY WAS I WRONG..although we are not paid off commission we might as well be...our hours are based off of how much we sell which i guess most would find reasonable .. but the opportunity for growth is very limited as the SM and AM are always busy running around with their.heads cutt off. Everyday at the end of our shift we have to log in how much we sell and at the beg of our shifts we recieve a chat in about our sellibg goal for the day with little encouragement and guidence. We have about three or four top sellers and ALL THEY DO is feed off of every possible sale in the store...im nosayitng this is. Positive light...the atmospshere at FoSsil is that of a dog eat dog world and sales associates are consta tly hounded for making sales. How am i supposed to grow and feel valied at a place that ONLY teaches constant competition ..? In my opinion great costumer service is helping a customer when help is NEEDED. Of a costimer simply just wants to check the stre out wr jave out top sellers following them around the store and when i shop i fimd this constant harrassment very unprofeasional. I couldnt tell you how many times ive been embarassed whe i am getting ready to ring someone up and one of the top sellers says right infront of the cuwtomet "oh...yourw really going to do that? youre going to take my sale? " ......how awkward the customers must feeel. Or when other associates yell across the store whos sale when this...when our top sellers arent here I sell very well..but when they are here my sales go down the toilet...call me not aggressive enough but this is my first retail job and I feel lille I have been thrown in there with a bunch of sharks. Just yesterday my manager yelled across the store I have half an hot to make something happen as in have a big sale or I'll have to go home....okay so basically I have to shove a couple of watches and bags down peoples throats...I wish the store operated more as a unit rather than one big competition. Shouldn't we be happy if a customer gets what they want...? This job is not for new...if you are a person ready and willing to work for a company as just a number rather than feeling that of importance to your contribution than this is the job for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate an atmosphere of positive encouragement
Get professional
And if the customer really is what is most important to you..then don't make SA's feel like they are pushing the customer to buy

Chicago, IL

Former Employee – worked at Fossil

ProsLovely product, and great discount.

ConsOur district manager was awful. The worst motivator, the worst communicator, the most miserable person I've known in recent months. As managers we were subjected to actual rolling of the eyes when we didn't know an answer to a question. She'd say things like "shame on you" when we missed our sales goals. Shame on you...yeah, that's teaching me how to be positive and motivate others. She caused me to leave, and the manager before me to leave, but I hear recently she was forced to leave so I suppose whatever goes around comes around. The benefits are expensive and there are very large co-pays for hospital stays.

Advice to Senior ManagementWatch whom you hire for management, but I suppose getting rid of the current DM was a step in the right direction.
