    Pros

Support Foster Wheeler Field Office Worker’s, Supervisors and Engineers at the BP Refinery Modernization Construction Site in Whiting, Indiana, the largest on-going construction project in North America in a dual role, were I monitored and maintained company’s computer network resources and Avaya and Shortel phone systems on the client side, connecting to their Corporate Headquarters in Houston as a Network Systems Integrator and Desktop Analyst resolving end-user hardware, software, network and communication problems. I provided end-user training where required. I also perform Instrumentation support of Project Manager for the I&E group, . Provide Cabling, to IT Closets, set up racks, routers; switches patch cables, fiber and power. Work with I&E Group configuring and testing Vicon CCTV, PTZ and Infrared cameras that will be installed, also Installed and configured EATON control cards using proprietary interface software CH-Studio to connect to SCADA for MCC units and buckets, Used Rotork IQ-INSIGHT to gather initial settings of MOV’s (motor operated valves) via infrared dongle data collection to re-calibrate to desired specs..It was a very educating experience, working with the leaders in today engineering technologies. I have grown immensely from this opportunity.

    Cons

Some of the projects require a total commitment of time as construction phases carry on in 12 hour shifts 6 days a week , as an IT person you are required to be on board with keeping all data and voice networks up and running for the viewing and corrections of all engineering design work. hourly wage starts out low at 50k depending on what position you are hired for. What your hired for does not mean there won't be additional work load brought upon you to meet job completion.."all hands on deck is there motto"...a truly team effort.

    Advice to Management

You management practice have paid off well, for me at least, I suggest you keep on your format of letting your subordinates no what a good job you feel they have accomplished and the awards you pass out is a stellar idea as well.

    Pros

Quality from experience from different crafts coming together to do a project is as smooth as butter.
productivity from comittment is a powerful goal for the hard workers on site.
The respect that people give to one another for safety for us and our families.
The kindness of each other to at least be a some what family through the others of the day we got to spend together.

    Cons

dont really hav a down , only because i worked for other companies before and never really had such a respect for any company such as this one.

    Advice to Management

maybe, the lack of communication when one is tryin to tell the reasons of missing work or maybe late. Being a female, and a mother, my responsibilty as a parent is kids first... their education their health, ect. dnt shut us out cuz were trying to explain.

    Pros

Foster Wheeler Civil Department has a tremendous group of people, a great department manager. For the most part employees seemed happy and very easy to work with. Do not get me wrong there are difficult people at Foster Wheeler, but they are the exception and not the rule.

    Cons

Let me see.... you have a long walk from the parking garage to the bank of elevators that take you to you office.

    Advice to Management

After Troy Roder left it seems as if the Houston jobs left as well. I know there are a lot of proposals for new work that is not producing work the Houston office. Bring Troy back to Houston, please.

    Pros

Benefits, flex time, modern clean office building, large usefull well thought out workspace, every other weekend is a 3 day weekend with Friday off.

    Cons

Having to spend 9 hours plus lunch everyday in the office in order to earn that every other Friday off. Absolutely bizzare design of the water faucets in the bathroom lavatories.

    Advice to Management

We will survive the Obama administration. The economy will recover and we will be busy again. Keep up the good work and vote against politicians that hurt our business.

    Pros

Varied opportunities. The technical capabilities of the staff are second to non. World class executions of project. Plenty of overseas opportunities.

    Cons

The salary may not be competitive with the likes of other companies nearby. But the work life balance certainly makes up for that.

    Advice to Management

Be more competitive with salaries. Possibly follow the likes of other companies such to use the 9 day fortnight scheme.
