    Pros

Good salary, good benefits and bonus program, onsite fitness center. Corporate offices are nice but in SE Portland, ample parking.

    Cons

Ever since the Kroger merger this regional office has gotten smaller and lost a lot of its employees as well as Mr. Meyers ideals. RIP

    Advice to Management

I guess I would say hang on as long as you can, or get ready to move to Cinncinati as alot of people have done.

    Pros

Management was very flexible. I worked in the electronics section and overall it was a very pleasurable experience.

    Cons

Not many chances for leadership development.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees more and allow them more ownership

    Pros

Great pay if you're not a Parcel and have worked there long enough. Most managers have respect for employees. If you work hard, you can go far.

    Cons

It is difficult work at times, especially on busy days, which you can't always predict. Some customers will be rude, but you'll get that anywhere in retail.

    Advice to Management

Schedule better. Listen to your employees thoughts and ideas. Communicate better.

    Pros

Being in the Grocery department, I have a very good income. I am union and I have awesome benefits for my family ($22/week).

    Cons

I've worked in 5 different FM stores and some people in management are not the greatest. This will come with any job though.

    Pros

Never had to worry about asking for more hours, decent to great pay depending on position, pretty flexible for when you ask for time off

    Cons

Very strict attendance rules, management can be difficult due to constant changes as upper management moves from store to store frequently

    Advice to Management

A larger sense of permanence from management would be nice so you could get to know who you're working for, and so you can build more rapport between employee and employer.

    Pros

I've had a good experience working at Fred Meyer -- my coworkers were welcoming and management encouraged me to do my best. Everyone is treated well and our location has plenty of work to go around. The company seems to have better employee benefits than its competitors.

    Cons

Problems can sometimes take a while to resolve.

    Pros

Coworkers are positive and encouraging to each other. Great company culture. Work life balance is highly valued and respected.

    Cons

Restructuring has been handled poorly. Management seems lost and unreachable. Yet this has not hurt employee moral. Unsure if career development is available

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they are your best asset and they care about the work they are producing.

    Pros

Fun but hard work. Passionate about their people and results. Good benefits, tuition reimbursement, encourages opportunities for personal growth and promotes from within.

    Cons

Too many programs to enforce that are created by people who may have never worked retail and may not realize the difficulty in enforcing them within the store. Promotions are met with constant movement of store locations in efforts to create more experience but at the cost of work-life balance.
