I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Manager worked with me around my school schedule. I learned a few new things like filleting a fish or cleaning a crab. Getting a seasonal job helps you get into a more permanent position. All Fred Meyer employees get a discount on Kroger products.

    Cons

After training, work was dominantly 8-hr shifts around holidays and weekends, with 3-4 days of down time in between, which can be frustrating. Initial Fred Meyer training is long and monotonous.

    Advice to Management

Allow each department manager to handle scheduling. I was often given a schedule that didn't work with my classes, which had to be worked on between the manager and myself. This is something that should be fixed easily.

I worked at Fred Meyer (More than 3 years)

  10. I've had a wonderful employment at this company.

    Pros

They only really hire friendly people, so if you're not into that, find another job. The customer base in Issaquah is demanding. You really must have a resilient attitude and remain positive to combat being unhappy here. Management is good or bad based on the department, if you're looking to become a cashier, you're in the clear!

    Cons

There are a lot of choosy and snappy people. You cannot be someone who complains about their job a lot. Everyone complains about the customers, but people are people, and working in service is hard.

    Advice to Management

Upper store management should allow more hours to be located throughout the store. This, understandably, isn't controlled solely by the store director - yet it is an issue that becomes cyclic and should be discussed with corporate.

    Pros

Lots of opportunities, open minded people move up if they work hard and show interest in management responsibilities, school and management prep programs available to all employees.

    Cons

It's retail so your schedule is all holidays, all hours store is open you can be scheduled. Black out dates are rough. Good management as long as you keep lines of communication open they work with you for family functions but cannot always get what you want.

    Advice to Management

We need to change our surveys for patron customers. They just don't want to do the same survey over and over again. I know we need this for feedback, but we need a different idea:)
