Former Employee – worked at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Good benefits, 401K, corporate policies/procedures
Cons – Suffocating in it's own audit puke. Dead weight long time employees making 30-40% more than seasoned college hires pulling the company forward.
Advice to Senior Management – Retain the bright minds of college hires. You have to pay to retain good talent. Keep paying high salaries for bloated workers that have been there for 15-20 years like leaches sucking the blood out of the place is a waste...

Cons – Very stressful environment with low employee morale due to negative media attention.. The leadership team constantly changes the employee focus and company goals.

Current Employee – been working at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Mostly the benefits and the internal mobility. Managers generally give strong preference to current employees for open positions, so there is a lot of mobility within the company to learn and experience different parts of the business. There are also a surprising amount of personal growth and learning opportunities to help you gain valuable skills both hard and soft.
Cons – Job growth is near impossible without switching positions, the culture is some of the most passive aggressive I've ever experienced or even heard of. The employees are afraid to put themselves out there, it tends to be a "head down" environment, which is unfortunate given the opportunities that are available to those that choose to take advantage of them.
Advice to Senior Management – There's unfortunately not much management can do at this point. They've tried a lot to turn our culture around, and honestly without a "refresh" of the individuals that are contributing to it, programs to help turn it around won't go anywhere (many have tried in the past). Maybe once the government lets our management make decisions about its employees again things will change.

Former Employee – worked at Freddie Mac full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – It was Good for the IT Youth; back in 2000 when the world was collapsing around us elsewhere, FHLMC was a great place to solidify one's dB, SQL, and BI skills. Plus they had a defined benefit plan, matching 401(k), nice annual bonus, and other perks.
Cons – Now all that's gone - as of Jan. 2012, no more defined benefit plan for new employees, no more time-served accrual for current employees; 401(k) is getting worse and worse; annual bonuses aren't what they used to be. Bascially the only folks who work there are either oldtimers waiting for the clock to tick-out for their pensions to kick in, or contractors.
Advice to Senior Management – Hand it over to TREAS sooner rather than later, and wave goodbye.

Former Employee – worked at Freddie Mac full-time
Pros – Great physical work environment. Clear and useful mission.
Cons – Must remain status-quo. Trying to implement new solutions to problems is like wading through cold, chest-deep molasses. Every reason why it won't work will be thrown out during a recurring overstuffed meeting until you're determination to actually achieve something is worn down to nothing.
Advice to Senior Management – Replace yourselves.

Former Employee – worked at Freddie Mac
Pros – College Hire rotation program is one of the most attractive things about the company. College hires get to learn a lot in 18 months. Good benefits and decent pay at the leadership and executive levels. Fun outdoor sports leagues, great campus, fitness center and Cafe!
Cons – Lower level employees do not get raises or bonuses. Old, out of date technology and inefficient processes. Company was the best place too work before the 2008 mortgage crisis. Too much government like control now.
Advice to Senior Management – To keep goo talent, you must stay current with the market for compensation and technology. Upper level management needs to spread the wealth. Be open to new ideas from lower level employees.
