I have been working at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

A great ambitious company that is very competitive in a tough industry. Compensation is very nice, and pllenty of opportunity to climb the ranks if you work for it.

    Cons

Locations aren't bad but are limited to South-west. Corporate offices are very top-heavy but they are good at what they do. IT help system is very problematic and slow.

    Pros

Excellent benefits with competitive pay, lots of locations to gain experience from. Good at keeping salaried employees from excessive working hours.

    Cons

Good-ole-boys mentality at local management level. Politics leads to a high turnover rate for those unable to work past it. Training rotations could be drastically improved, easy to get stuck in one position.

    Pros

Steady work that of course depends on the copper economy. Good benefits. Pay rates are compeditive

    Cons

As with all mining careers, the work environment is dirty at all times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes it seems that the wrong messages are sent to the workforce when safety incidents happen. It has been said that people have lost their jobs or been chastized over very minor incidents. I think it is a lack of communication which inturn sends the wrong message or perseption which then in my opinion causes the workforce to be very hestitant to report anything.

    I worked at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold full-time

    Pros

Great benefits and salary. People who work for this company aare treated like kings. People work, it is no holiday, but the overall benefits more than compensate for it.

    Cons

The size of the organization is really too large. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There seems to be a great amount of waste and too many layers of service.
