    Pros

Great bonuses, safety culture, and benefits. The company shares the profits when times are good and when things slow down,

    Cons

Most positions are shift work which rotate days and nights. This makes it hard to have a normal life outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Some managers need to listen to employee recommendations instead of asking for opinions and then ignoring them completely.

    Pros

Compensated well for a non-degree required positions in a remote area. Bonuses are huge. Lot of things in the town are subsidized by the company; housing, theater tickets, community events, ect.

    Cons

HR has a heavy hand and many of them are headhunters. Supervision/management is encouraged to turn people in for the slightest infractions. Rules are passed down from blue collar corporate pencil pushers in Phoenix and unfortunately, the people doing the real work in the field are blue collar, rough around the edges type folks that grew up in the area. It's not uncommon to see a good guy with a family get fired for a first time offense like joking around with his comrades in a maintenance bay and some crybaby metallurgist or engineer happened to be walking by. If you want to get into management here, forget what you know because those same whiners with the degrees who don't know the first thing about what is going on with the workers are the ones who get promoted to superintendent/manager. "Merit" raises don't mean anything. In my first position, I worked up to a fill-in supervisor within 6 months of stepping foot in the town and learned every single area associated with the title i was given, I was friendly and sociable and worked my butt off to make the day enjoyable for my co-workers. As recognition, I was given a 3% (30c) raise for my first year with the company. I applied for a different area, worked my butt off again, this time making 65% more than my first position, and got a couple of big speeches from my manager blowing smoke up my butt only to find I was being given a 2% raise (40c). I was told by a supervisor friend of mine that they are discouraged by HR/management from giving higher raises and that only 1/1000 get anything more than 3%. The company doesn't give 2 craps about its employees because we are all a dime a dozen. The company preaches safety, but when major concerns are brought up, supervision/management starts weighing the cost. (What is the cost of someone losing their life?)

    Advice to Management

Take a look at what is actually going on with your front line employees and try to bring up morale with something other than a big bonus.

  9. Great pay for only working 2 weeks a month.

    Pros

    Pay, housing, benefits, and community.

    Cons

If your not a towney it takes you longer to get up in the ranks.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes to the buddy buddy system around the mine. It gets old if your not in the click of grew up there and you're pushed to side for someone's friend.
