I have been working at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I loved the culture of Freeport. It was laid back and friendly with the best safety focus I've ever seen in an organization.

    Cons

The pay was lower than I had hoped and living in a mine town was tough having come from a bigger city.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a stronger training program for the interns. Set a company wide program and system for the internships.

I worked at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold as an intern

    Pros

Endless training opportunities. People are super friendly. You get to learn so much even if you are just an intern. People are actually willing to spend time teaching you even if they are busy.

    Cons

It's kind of hard to living in a mining town if you are single or a fresh grad. It takes time to get used to the living conditions.

    Pros

Great pay. Great people. Opportunity for growth and moving around within the company.

    Cons

Slow to adapt. Need to have methods in place to implement new ideas for saving money and improving work processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Energetic, High Expectations, and Great Benefits. International travel was very exciting and great opportunity to learn from very smart people. Great respect for contribution of the individual and team.

    Cons

At times, challenged by the nature of politics surrounding natural resources and license to operate. Nature of the beast...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider work from home schedules to reduce commute at corporate office as well as to attract the younger workforce to mining.

I worked at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I enjoyed my internship and had the opportunity to learn quite a bit. I also was given opportunities to cross-train and even have a few experiences that were just for fun...such as riding in a haul truck and train (while still doing work). Very neat opportunity to see the full scope of the mining process at Morenci and I took a lot away from it. People are very friendly and there is definitely a good safety culture and family atmosphere.

    Cons

Morenci is a fairly boring town and being older than the other interns I didn't really have much to do. Weekends were spent driving over two hours to Tucson. Housing was limited to I found myself living in a hotel all summer. No complaints about the company or internship itself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give information on career opportunities within the company post-graduation for those who aren't engineering interns.
