Like playing “Survivor”, waiting to be voted out of the company

Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff (Current Employee)
Austin, TX

I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe work is very interesting and challenging, and I am given a lot of management freedom to pursue topics that I think are important. With all of the layoffs and attrition, there are a lot of opportunities to excel.

ConsWe have had so many layoffs that the review and evaluation process has become a lot like the game of “Survivor” where alliances of managers vote to eliminate strong people from other people’s groups. The process is no longer based on technical achievement, but rather it is on eliminating people who out-perform you. Closing the Parmer lane site gives me an unreasonable commute.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have to get rid of rank and rate. It has far exceeded its usefulness, and just generates a hostile environment.

You could walk off the job and nobody would ever remember or care that you ever worked there

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Tempe, AZ

I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor

ProsThey don't micromanage you as long as you are not late on your project

ConsLack of excitement and thrill. The company is more of a "Let's get pumped to get the current management their multi-million dollar bonuses so they can get out of there in two to four years" culture.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop grinding up the remaining employees. We are so close to screeching to a halt because there are so few people working in the U.S. I can't see why anyone would go into the engineering profession anymore with the way the engineers are treated. There is no career investment / educational opportunities.

Marketing Manager (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at Freescale Semiconductor full-time for more than a year

ProsSmart, nice people, great history from Motorola, very flexible work from home when needed environment

Conseveryone claims to be "sooo busy" so projects take longer, very risk averse

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's admirable that you have many employees that have been there 10-15-20 years, but that also can be a negative with regards to new approaches
