    Pros

A lot of talented people still here. Enjoyable to work with. Interesting technology.

    Cons

Dedicated effort by upper management to out-source and off-shore everything. Brutal s/w delivery schedules. Layoffs routine. No effort to recruit/hire new/young people. No one knows where anything is headed. Most people are looking for the exits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're building an environment with no discernible future for any of your employees.

I worked at Fujitsu Network Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

friendly environment, onsite cafeteria, onsite temp agency manager, most supervisors work well with employees. The work place is clean and tidy. a very nice working environment.

    Cons

employees don't advance in position to often, temps are kept for extremely long period of time without being hired in or given the opportunity to be hired in. Raises are rare and when given it is usually small and rarely make a difference on the employees paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Utilize Talk to Power, hire the temps in as full time employees. Have better raises and give raises on at least a yearly bases.

I have been working at Fujitsu Network Communications

    Pros

Good benefits and adequate compensation. Occasionally interesting work, with some
very capable colleagues. Great area to live.

    Cons

A lot of sustaining and cost reduction work, as telecom equipment has a long deployment life.
Schedules are paramount, budget is inflexible, room for mistakes is non-existent.
Inter-department contention can be something to behold.
Intra-department contention can be even worse.
Cost containment has gone too far, to the point of costing more in low productivity and low cooperation. See above.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good products sell themselves. Take the time to make them. Moving the marketing exec away from
product development was a good start.

    Pros

FNC is a market leader in optical transport in the US. There is some flexibility in work hours which helps with work/life balance. An on-site gym is popular at lunchtime. FNCs largest customers are AT&T and Verizon so it has a strong customer base for its current prodcut generation.

    Cons

Employees are siloed - they toil away in the dark and have little opportunity for any real recognition. You won't get rich at FNC. Upper management is isolated. There is a Japanese expat clique that keeps to themselves. US managers only talk to each other. You won't see them walking around the building talking with anyone. The real decisions are made in Japan - HW development is there too. Japan develops the products and dumps them on FNC to sell in the US. You are only provided with the information you absolutely need to have - knowledge is power so people don't freely share information. The company has a vested interest in laying you off before 5 years - before you vest in your 401K cause they keep the unvested funds when they get rid of you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk out your door and talk with people - ask about what they do and how they do their jobs. Get to know a few more people than you direct reports and your secretary.
