Has its share of issues. But overall good place to work.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Pearl River, NY

ProsGood Pay. Talented group of individuals. Relatively good job security. Benefits are excellent.

ConsLack of industry vision. Not a good planning team to keep up with latest technologies. Seems like development is lagging behind other competitors.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove industry vision. Invest more in development team as opposed to planning and management.

Typical first week on the job.

Technical Support Agent (Current Employee) Richardson, TX

    ProsLaid back environment
    Dress code is casual.

    ConsScheduling may be a challenge
Training method was not a good look. They did not have a manual for all of the job tools needed for troubleshooting the main issues that would come up on a call.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Very innovative and career development place to work

    Director (Current Employee) Richardson, TX

ProsExcellent family and work life balance, while still be in the technology field. Good career development and management skills. Legendary quality.

ConsCan be slow to enter the market, but once it does it performs well in the market. There is bureacracy, but, then again, it is a large, multi-national, multi-$billion company.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep steering it in the direction you are currently taking it. The expansion is having a dramatic, positive effect on the employees.

    Many opportunities to learn

    Manager, Software Development (Current Employee)

ProsAs a leader in the transport space FNC is working hard to maintain this leadership role. One avenue is to add services - data services (ELINE, ELAN, SOAM....) and OTN. This provides ample opportunities to get involved with new/different technologies. FNC is in a position where there are more things to do than staff, so finding exciting things to do is very easy if you are interested.

ConsThe Japanese business culture can be difficult to deal with. They ask a lot of questions and you are often left wondering why they are asking.

Advice to Senior ManagementDefine the culture and values of the company. Seek to find ways to decouple from Japan (hard to do when the mother ship is Japanese....)

    Tight deadline pressure

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsBig company with a little bit more job security/stability.

ConsConstant deadlines with never enough resources. Motivation through shame. Management sets deadline based on wishful thinking and optimistic scenarios. Micromanaging with a great deal of paperwork. Lack of trust in engineer's abilities.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet more reasonable deadlnes instead of setting everyone up for failure.
