I have been working at G2 USA full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

G2 was like any other ad agency owned by a large holding company. Pros - nice offices, good infrastructure and standardized processes.

    Cons

As a large-ish company, it was easy for people who weren't pulling their weight to hide for too long which can be demoralizing for those who are picking up the slack.

Very segmented - if someone wasn't on your team you probably didn't know them, even if they sat near you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Long term strategy was often sacrificed for short term wins. Tough to balance the two when most employees, some at very high levels, are looking for their next job instead of trying to invest in this one.

    Pros

good client list and resume building opportunities, great location in midtown Manhattan, full-service agency with built out departments, entrepreneurial environment

    Cons

manager ran account into the ground, was greedy for growth and ultimately lost a long standing account

    Pros

Great client roster of blue chip companies, above average compensation. Good inter-disciplinary team of strategists, creatives, project managers, analytic specialists and production professionals.

    Cons

Very demanding senior management - very focused on revenue and profitability vs. meeting client needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put your clients' interests first and the business will grow. Provide more training opportunities and embrace emerging technology trends.

I have been working at G2 USA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are some really smart, good, and dedicated people who work there. But working with them and on a great team is hit/miss.

    Cons

Currently not a great place to work. Laid off a lot of people over the last year and is currently merging with OgilvyAction to compensate for loss of businesses.

Has been a top-down company for the last couple of years who don't hire the right top people to run the businesses. Folks low on the totem pole work hard but without reward. Folks high on totem pole don't make the right decisions or support their team members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to stay in touch with the folks who are actually doing the work. Offer support and proper compensation.

    Pros

It's more work/life balance compares to other agencies. Office is good.

    Cons

Salaries are low. And not enough raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the benefits. Respect your people.

    Pros

Office has beautiful 270 degree view of the city with ample natural light. Staff is small enough to get to know everyone personally.

    Cons

Every month one must sit through a status-awards-ceremony where you get fake $2 bills as a reward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are at the top of management, be there for your immediate department instead of the pretty account females.

    I worked at G2 USA full-time

    Pros

    - As much as I did not like the general culture, I have to admit that I learned a lot while I was there.
    - Good transit location.
    - Nice self training opportunities at discounted levels
    - Nice bathrooms (despite nasty users)

    Cons

    - Weak leadership in general
    - Very, very, very "cliquish" and political (you'll find this at most big agencies)
    - Little to no diversity at the director and executive levels (having one or two minorities doesn't count). This is an issue in the advertising industry as a whole, that also partly has to do with economics.
    - Low morale among many groups

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - G2, at least while I was there, had some of skilled employees at the managerial and director levels. However skill does not necessarily equate to leadership ability. Invest in leadership training for your managers on up, and make it mandatory to attend.
    - Diversify your ranks on the leadership levels, and be open minded to diverse opinions

I have been working at G2 USA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Chance to work with some great concepts on the strategic, web design and analytics front
    - Great learning experience across different projects
    - Convenient location in New York City

    Cons

-The gossiping and name bashing that happens in this place is on a whole different level, but I'll also chalk that up to the workplace in general and the younger age demographic of the advertising industry
    - Not as diverse as it may seem
    - Groups operate in silos/do not share information freely. What makes this particular point dangerous is that I have seen this trend happen between members of the same group.
    - Little room for professional advancement (have to be with the "in-crowd" in certain cases, again, I'll partly chalk this up to general office politics)
    - Review system is terrible and forget about pay raises/bonuses
    - No investment whatsoever in professional development (classes, certifications, etc).
    - No positive reinforcement for many of the more hardworking employees.
    - No focus, or understanding of process across many of the departments. This creates a cascading effect that costs the agency morale, timing, efficiency, and in some cases, clients themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your business is only as good as your employees and the services you provide. Consider making significant investments in those two things to start.

    Pros

Friendly work environment, cool new building near the flatiron.

    Cons

Underpaid, employees are apathetic with lack of incentive, open work plan is annoying and not conducive to getting work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay good people better and get rid of the riff raff who are asleep on the job.
