Former Employee – worked at GE Aviation full-time for less than a year
Pros – Great salary and lots of overtime.
Cons – Work was nothing related to engineering for me. No benefits for interns. Working on weekends. Being a bigger company, things take a lot of time to get done. What I can finish at a smaller company in about a month time takes about 6 months at GE.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees and try to work a little faster.

Current Employee – been working at GE Aviation full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Process oriented company. Excellent job posting system spanning entire company. Purchase GE products/services at reduced price. The GE name is great to have on a resume.
Cons – Bureaucratic. Boss is too busy to help: Sink or swim.

Former Employee – worked at GE Aviation part-time for less than a year
Pros – The GE name is great to have on a resume and the project work I did actually impacted the business and is being used, I wasn't doing busy work or the work of a secretary.
Cons – I was not overly busy at work, I repeatedly asked my supervisor for more work, but I definitely had time to contribute more to the organization. I think they were worried about overworking me, but instead I felt under-utilized.
Advice to Senior Management – Run a better intern program- provide more opportunities for interns to learn about other parts of the business because Aviation is such a large and diversified company.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at GE Aviation as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Great rotational programs such as EEDP and OMLP. Aviation is number one in engines and does interesting work. Also a huge company that allows for a lot of lateral movement within different departments.
Cons – Boss was too busy to help with intern work or even assign projects. The work I did was technical and had an impact however throughout some of the summer I did not have much to do.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at GE Aviation as an intern for less than a year
Pros – - Structured career advancement
- Globally recognized company name
- Incredible technology potential
- Strong source of work groups, especially diversity-targeted
Cons – - No cross-over between business units. This is a huge area for potential improvement. Interns are frequently with a business for geographic reasons. But all that experience is worthless if applying to a different business unit (example, trying to transition from Aviation to Healthcare)
- Aviation manufacturing sites are very varied in technology and resources available. The shop floor environment can be toxic at times, as an intern who is told regularly by long-time employees to not get sucked in, and get out while you still can.
- Huge amounts of corporate red tape. Something as simple as getting a desk phone requires using the help line routed through Asia, rather than just calling directly to the next building over.
- Unpreparedness for new hires was evident. There needs to be a much better system for onboarding new hires and making sure that they have resources (phone, computer, cubicle) ready for them on the day they arrive.
- Very demanding hours for some manufacturing management personnel
Advice to Senior Management – Create stronger bonds between business units! There is incredibly valuable knowledge across the company, but it is too segregated. Plenty of manufacturing knowledge transfers well between different industries, but it can't if those bridges aren't in place.

Former Employee – worked at GE Aviation full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Lots of opportunities to learn and work on latest aircraft
Cons – High pressure, sluggish management, click-ey
Advice to Senior Management – Get to know your employees, allow some personal life, listen to your employees when they suggest that something will take a certain amount of time. Just because the PM agrees to an unreasonable schedule, does not make it an achievable one.
