I have been working at GE Healthcare

    Pros

    Decent compensation
    Well known company

    Cons

Everyone seems to think they can walk on water, and the ground they walk on should be worshipped. The worst are the IMLPs, these are supposedly the "chosen" executives of the future and act like absolute spoiled brats.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IMLPs are not always going to be great. Part of becoming a great leader are the lessons and humility you learn whilst climbing the corporate ladder...

I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If GE Healthcare were to follow its own internal review process (EMS) and were stacked against other leading technology companies, it would lag behind.

    Pros
    Good set of benefits.

    Flexible work hours.

    Cons

Salary increases fall behind the rate of inflation.

EMS process is antiquated, unfair, and can be gamed. It usually is more about who likes you than what you accomplish.

Even though they perform reorgs constantly, there are still too many managers as compared to individual contributors. They keep trying to remove management grids but fail to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better hiring practices needed at off shore facilities. The quality of the work from these locations is sorely lacking. It doesn't save the company money if the work produced there constantly needs to fixed or redone.

I worked at GE Healthcare part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I was paid very well, the work was easy but detailed.

    Cons

Huge favoritism towards individuals by team leaders, unprofessional manners by veteran coworkers.
Experienced physical and verbal abuse personally'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't allow your 20 year + people to ruin it for others' nothing worse then hearing bad things about the company you just chose to work for by their own Union Stewart constantly. Detox your environment, companies that allow bad behavior to thrive in tight areas reap nothing! Production suffers and so does morale. Quit favoring those who are stagnant and recongnize those who produce with detailed accuracy Consistantly. At first I was honered and felt humbled to work for a company I have grown to know throughout my entire life, but the very first week was an eye opener. Regardless of my attempts to avoid and detach myself from all the gossip within the company I found it right back in my face day after day. I have worked in Prodution Manufacturing for more then 30 years and have never experienced such unprofessional and inexcusable behavior by other coworkers and management as well because they never addressed these issues and still haven't
today after talking with a good friend who is still employed there today.

GE Healthcare Lifesciences bedeviled by personnel from former acquisitions

I worked at GE Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work-Life balance: Favored employees are allowed to abuse medical time off and work from home policies. If you are competent and conscientious at your job, or you are from a newly acquired company, you will not be a favored employee.
Benefits: The GE benefits package is very good if you can keep your position.
Perks: If your personal agenda coincides with that of a Manager, GE will allow you to pursue it during work hours.

    Cons

GE Lifesciences doesn't develop new products; it advances itself by acquiring companies. Unfortunately, personnel from GE's acquisition of Amersham in 2005 have not accepted the acquisitions as opportunity; they have instead viewed any new acquisition as a threat to their view that "It was better before GE took us over' (direct quote). They are in position to target new personnel for dismissal and do so. There is absolutely no emphasis on "Talent Retention". Advancement opportunities are denied to new acquisitions; training in GE procedures is minimal; if you try to move within GE the former Amersham personnel will try to block any such move.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Changing the prevailing corporate culture of Amersham personnel suppressing new acquisitions will require the drastic measure of firing former Amersham personnel that have had any supervisory capacity.

I worked at GE Healthcare (less than an year)

    Pros

While I worked at GE I received little help managing my shop from my District manager, but that created an environment for high paced learning of systems and operations.

    Cons

Management wouldn't provide overtime for times of large workload. Management would rather pull technicians from other shops who are also behind on services. I understand that that effects their quarterly bonuses. Nice incentive for them, but site managers and techs get the short end of the stick most of the time. Requesting overtime shouldn't be similar to pulling teeth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on individual site support. Offer more over time when needed.

I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of growth opportunity, average pay, average benefits. Some managers are very good, and a lot of people really want to do a good job and make quality medical equipment.

    Cons

leadership vision is limited by quarterly earnings. Leadership consistently makes very poor management decisions in order to make quarterly numbers, even though it may cost millions next year to make up for it. Lay offs and turn over have forced far too much work on too few remaining people, and quality has suffered dramatically as a result. Focus on shifting work overseas has cost in terms of quality and responsiveness to business needs. The only reason GE remains competitive in the Healthcare sector is because they've still got enough cash to bail themselves out of the truly terrible management they're suffering under. Culture turns leadership team over every 2-3 years, so leaders don't have to live with the consequences of their poor management practices and decision making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There will be a quarter after this quarter, and a year after this year. Stop trashing the business to make quarterly numbers and remember your obligation to your stockholders and employees. Manage!
