    Pros

Pays good wage in a union shop.

    Cons

Do not like to work with unions. No training programs or interaction with said union employees with decades of experience and knowledge needed at this gas and oil site in MA.USA

    Advice to Management

Understanding what it means to learn about a business that you do not know about. Buying something and then not learning what people who, work for you, to make your products and just changing this by buying the cheapest is not always the way to go. Customers are your lifeblood in any industry. Making them mad with your name will surely be your undoing.

    Pros

GE used to be a great company 25 years ago. It was innovative, risk takers, open to new ideas and brought good things to life.

    Cons

Company has tremendous debt. It is almost bankrupt. The leadership is immature. Work load on people who are capable is 3 to 4 times what is out there in the industry. Yes women/men are made leaders who are capable of doing nothing. It is very sad.

    Advice to Management

Step down. You are disgrace to the country and to the share holders. You are leaders because you could not do real work. It is amazing how GE works.

    Pros

There are some very talented and hard-working people at GE. However, right now there seems to be an exodus by some of the best and brightest.

    Cons

Not supportive of flexible working arrangements, lots of responsibility with little authority, short-sighted, managing up is the most prized skill.

    Pros

Pay is very good as well as the benefits. Insurance is low cost as well as vision, dental, and life insurance.

    Cons

Working on the floor is a cutthroat environment. Most people spend way too much time watching what everyone else is doing and are quick to tell supervisors about anything wrong. Management cares very little about hourly workers. If it were not for the pay, there would not be many who worked there.

    Pros

Personally the only benefit I experienced was getting a discount at a hotel for being an employee of GE. Other than that, I didn't consider anything a perk in my program.

    Cons

    The program was completely unorganized.

    Advice to Management

Stay consistent with the training of incoming members.

Return to old pay scale and return to traditional management style

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, can often work from home, company car provided for local field sales positions

    Cons

Pension plan is no longer available for new hires. Sales budgets assigned by management every year that are non negotiable. Commission plan changes every year and usually becomes more complicated and confusing every year.

    Advice to Management

Provide a simple commission plan for your field sales team that incentivizes everyone to sale product. Simplifying the plan would also simplify the payment calculations and speed up payments to individuals.

    Pros

Good hourly rate for contractors (make sure to talk them up)

    Cons

Every design, organizational, collaboration, PLM, and/or control tool is either horrendously outdated or more often than not just does not work. The place is a bureaucratic nightmare. Extremely frustrating when you can't do your job constantly due to company resources failing and never working. Far too much tribal knowledge and designers/engineers blatantly disagreeing with what few controlled process there are.

    Advice to Management

I'm not going to even bother.

    Pros

Good for early career development if you know how to find the available resources.

    Cons

Mid career development is lacking and I have seen many careers stall at GE. Forget about late career opportunities, they don't want you.

    Advice to Management

There are far too many incompetent managers. GE management placement needs more rigor. Less process and more employee empowerment.
