    Pros

Great place to learn fundamentals of purchasing and corporate culture. GE name carries a lot of weight to a resume.

    Cons

Too many new initiatives that are just window dressing. Too many kids with no experience getting the managerial career rocket ship ride that are unqualified which creates havoc on the people actually doing the work

    Advice to Management

Benefits are good, pay is pretty poor considering the GE's image in the corporate world. Smaller competitors generally pay more.

I have been working at GE full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay and overtime is offered

    Cons

Poor benefits, poor medical insurance, poor working conditions, need to share tools to perform the job duties, constantly out of parts

    Advice to Management

Provide new working tools to allow people to efficiently perform their job duties and have the necessary parts on hand when needed. Get rid of the dead beats.

I have been working at GE full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to learn a lot either on the job or through company sponsored training Work with smart and ambitious people Culture of getting things done You will get a job when you leave there. Employers like seeing candidates with GE experience. Means you can gut it out and deliver.

    Cons

Fiercely competitive to the point where there is often no trust at all levels of the organization. Senior leaders are out of touch with staff and are more concerned with making themselves look good, what car they drive and their bonus checks. No loyalty to the staff. Use them up and throw them out mentality. Worried about meeting diversity quota and not giving jobs to the most qualified. Opportunities, rewards and recognition often go to the few hand picked program kids who are not the most worthy or talented. Tough environment to work.

    Advice to Management

You have lost touch with what made GE successful. Consider the welfare of the people around you. Employees who feel appreciated will do more.

    Pros

Competitive Pay, Challenging roles, excellent way to get industry experience. Stability for those willing to put up with unfamily friendly hours, despite the company's work life balance apparent culture

    Cons

High pressure, very little real training. An expectation that now you are hired you should just go ahead and train yourself and be accountable of that doesnt work out

    Advice to Management

Have more respect for the employees and more gratitude for everything that they sacrifice in order to achieve company goals

I worked at GE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent co-workers; wealth of resources & training; opportunities for promotion across different businesses.

    Cons

Compensation is low for the industry; everyone manages up and shows with little concern about the business, clients, and employees; cycling business CEOs and leaders is great for the individual, but gets tiresome if you're staying with one business.

    Advice to Management

Need to be more agile, better and more honest employee communications, please stop management from the "box checking" and yes-man culture.

    Pros

Looks great on a resume due to its wide-spread brand recognition, lots of opportunity to work on high-pressure projects, great training in too-large bureaucracies and all the issues endemic to large-scale cultural rot from the inside

    Cons

Executive and Corporate management is self-absorbed with their personal reputation and selfish recognition, not necessarily what is right or good for customers. Corporate truisms like "We are training future leaders" belies strong cultural age bias

    Advice to Management

Your people are your assets, not your personal reputation. Get your priorities in order
