I have been working at GE full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

GE is good at internal benefits for each employee. There are a multitude of training classes, learning opportunities, and adjacent growth opportunities.

    Cons

Matrix organization is very difficult to get used to and personally manage. Focus is heavily on the short term and finance drives the company operation. Very committed and aggressive teams but you have to be able to work and thrive in that environment.

I worked at GE (less than a year)

    Pros

Great group of engineers to work with. Co-ops are compensated for over-time and treated as full-time salaried engineers and given challenging tasks.

    Cons

Very fast paced environment. With the role of a manufacturing engineer comes the required work during non-operating hours (weekends & holidays).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some tuition-reimbursement would be nice. Other than that, great program!

I have been working at GE full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

.GE invests heavily in people development. There is also a focus on common values. As a result The people at GE are top notch, hard working, down to earth people that you want to be on a team with. The career opportunities are also huge and endless.. It's actually possible to move too fast at this company,

    Cons

Navigating the great bureaucracy. Sometimes feels like we produce nothing but excel and PowerPoint pitches. It takes a lot of stakeholder management and working across and up the matrix to get anything done. In the midst of a pretty significant drive to change to a more entrepreneurial culture. An ambitious and worthy goal but a long way to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are much further away from empowerment and delegation of authority than we care to admit. Try allowing for open ratings of managers , incorporating a system similar to glass door where employees can submit public feedback on working for a manager. This would drive a huge culture change around empowerment and leadership.
