Great Entry Level Job for Managers or Sales Staff.

Store Manager (Former Employee) Mobile, AL

ProsGreat training on how to sale. GNC Likes to promote within, so if you sale well, and the products you are trained to sell, you can move up fast.

ConsTough sales goals. This is not a place to work if you are nervous about engaging customers or easily demotivated by difficult customers. If you have a fun attitude, and you like working hard, you will get a lot out of GNC.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a harder look at your best employees. They might be better than you realize.

A boring job punctuated by a few lucrative moments.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsAbility for rapid advancement to management. Nicely paced training materials. Training materials available online and in hard copy. Daily commission incentives.

ConsMinimum wage for salespeople. Unclear and highly variable commission structure. All non-management sales positions are part time. Product line caters to an extremely limited demographic. Variable shifts are not conducive to establishing customer relationships.

Advice to Senior ManagementSales plans and last year vs. this year stats do not bring customers in and awareness of them on the sales level does not maximize sales. If you want a better sales force, concentrate on training them to better serve the customers they interact with; product knowledge, how to incorporate beneficial products into a sale, how to introduce promotions/savings into a sale, how to incorporate all of these into an interaction which is also personal. Remember that the salesperson doesn't bring people in, that is a corporate job. Sales expectation numbers only serve to increase anxiety; do you like anxious salespeople?
