Store Manager (Current Employee) West Springfield, MA

ProsOne of the most flexible Manager schedules in retail, good hours, decent pay, good commission structure

Conshigh turnover in upper management down to the store level

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease commission rates for sales associates, take most commissions away from managers and increase annual salaries

    Competitive

Part Time Sales Associate (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsI am probably one of the few people who actually love my job. I feel as though it is a competitive environment and I am always trying to improve each day. Its nice to get paid commission and I like meeting those trying to improve their health!

ConsI feel as though upper management expect you to hit certain goals EVERY DAY which is near impossible, even if you are at a high volume store. I do not like the fact that my job is always at risk if customers refuse to buy product.

Advice to Senior ManagementMost of the RSD and upper management creating these sales goals need to actually work in a store. Its not as easy as it may seem!

A good place to work, if you are self-motivated and want to have a healthy background.

GNC Sales Associate (Former Employee) Cedar Hill, TX

ProsLearning a healthy lifestyle is knowledge for your customers but also yourself. Your shifts are mostly done by yourself unless management is there for a particular reason or if your training someone. Great experience if your new to retail sales it will allow you to expierence some easy commission goals and allows you to learn how the retail world works.

ConsIt is challenging if you like to have help and you can't multi-task, as you will have a checklist of things to do everyday you go in by your manager. If your looking to make a lot of money off of commissions this is not the place for you. I would advise to have somewhate of a willingness for fitness because you are the only person the customers are turning to, to know your stuff about health and fitness.

Good job, clean enviornment, non stable pay.

GNC Sales Associate (Current Employee) Warminster, PA

ProsThis place was cool and informing. You learn a lot about the body and health as you go and the place was ran really well.

Cons(cont.) It was just too far away from where I live so it was taking a toll on gas and living situations.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management would be to have more intricate events, where one educates people on their bodies and things they can do to increase longevity. Have small giveaways and specials on product, but hold the sales for a shorter period of time with more advertisement.

    Significant down time.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Davis, CA

ProsA lot of down time, simple work, nothing too complicated, gives you a good sense of nutrition products. Most managers are fairly laid back. Some commission.

ConsBase pay is low. Very corporate in the "c word" sense. Hourly employees are not respected much by company executives and there is some sense that you are expected to be a robot when dealing with customers.

    Easy job, low pay.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros-It is an easy job, regular day includes maintaining the store and sales; managing the sales team which is fairly simple because most of the time the team is made up of 2-5 people. Occasional plan-o-grams; mark downs; some paper work but it does not take long not is it complicated.
    -free product; vendor relations;
-Talking to people about fitness and supplements was a pro a for me because I'm into it.

Cons-Most of the time you work alone; it can get really boring.
-Room for advancement is small; getting into a higher volume store only gives a few K pay increase. Higher paying positions are scarce, raises are low.
-The sales structure turns a lot of customers off
-Fairly low pay; even for managers not enough to live comfortably on their own.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut down on all the demands; pay your managers more and stop opening up so many new locations.

Great customer connections/satisfaction you get to deal with customers hands on and see their results.

ConsCompany puts all its emphasis on customer, little to none on employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange KPI's and focus on retaining/promoting employees.
