    I worked at GNC

    Pros

My boss was in training for nursing school, and the combination of his training and knowledge of nutrition made this a very educational experience.

    Cons

Having to meet certain sales targets every month for oddball things was not very appealing. And some of the other employees I worked with (same hierarchy level) were not necessarily the greatest people. But I'm sure that was more because of the area and education required for the role.

I have been working at GNC part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The main reasons to work here would be...
    increasing social skills
    decent pay
    flexible hours
    enjoyment of the supplement industry
    networking with potential sponsors

    Cons

    Numbers numbers numbers.
When you meet your sales goals, they will just increase your requirement, as they know you can do XXX, so they make you push to XXXX, and so on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on giving the customer what they want, and not only what GNC makes the most money off of.

I worked at GNC part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great discounts on quality products. The people you work with and for are all focused on the same goals - helping people succeed in their health goals.

    Cons

The requirement to sell a certain amount of GNC products even though there is a better quality product that could benefit the patron more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Educate the people better -- training can be lacking.

    Pros

Learn sales. Stores are fun to work in.

    Cons

Lots if sales goals. Must be able to handle pressure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful in changeing priorities so often. Makes stores feel you are not certain about what you are doing.

    Pros

    Great discounts
    They promote from within

    Cons

    Sales could be challenging
RSD doesnt always seem to see some of the struggles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay sales associates a little more, its high turnover and a lot of LP issues because of that.

I have been working at GNC part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I am probably one of the few people who actually love my job. I feel as though it is a competitive environment and I am always trying to improve each day. Its nice to get paid commission and I like meeting those trying to improve their health!

    Cons

I feel as though upper management expect you to hit certain goals EVERY DAY which is near impossible, even if you are at a high volume store. I do not like the fact that my job is always at risk if customers refuse to buy product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the RSD and upper management creating these sales goals need to actually work in a store. Its not as easy as it may seem!

I worked at GNC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Learning a healthy lifestyle is knowledge for your customers but also yourself. Your shifts are mostly done by yourself unless management is there for a particular reason or if your training someone. Great experience if your new to retail sales it will allow you to expierence some easy commission goals and allows you to learn how the retail world works.

    Cons

It is challenging if you like to have help and you can't multi-task, as you will have a checklist of things to do everyday you go in by your manager. If your looking to make a lot of money off of commissions this is not the place for you. I would advise to have somewhate of a willingness for fitness because you are the only person the customers are turning to, to know your stuff about health and fitness.

I have been working at GNC part-time for less than a year

    Pros

This place was cool and informing. You learn a lot about the body and health as you go and the place was ran really well.

    Cons

(cont.) It was just too far away from where I live so it was taking a toll on gas and living situations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to have more intricate events, where one educates people on their bodies and things they can do to increase longevity. Have small giveaways and specials on product, but hold the sales for a shorter period of time with more advertisement.
