    Pros

Commission on top of salary, opportunity, worldwide corporation

    Cons

High sales goals, more pressure to just sell and not necessarily "help" the customer, training must be done at home

I have been working at GNC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture and coworkers are great in my department. You get a 30% discount on purchases in the stores. Paid time off.

    Cons

It is a very "corporate" company... almost more like a bureaucracy at times. There's a lot of friction between departments and people spend more time playing CYA than solving problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs more open communication between departments and to foster a less adversarial approach to interdepartmental relations.

I have been working at GNC part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If supplements are of interest to you, you'll be around them constantly. There is a lot of opportunity to learn more if you have the right manager. A lot of the people that work at GNC really DO know what they are talking about. The scheduling is also flexible.

    Cons

Meeting the sales goals is impossible some months. When 2% of stores are reaching goal, there is something wrong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be a better connection between the sales-associate and upper-level management.

I worked at GNC part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The great thing about being a GNC sales associate is you get to wear many hats. I wan't a manager, but I had keys to the store. I would do the paperwork and drop the bank deposit off at the end of the night. I got to see how the organization ran as a whole. I also was the cashier. I was the floor sales rep and product expert. I did shelf blocking and assisted with inventory. It's good position for learning the basics of retail.

    Cons

It's a smaller store. You don't get the experience of a big retail store. The pros can turn into cons when it's extremely busy depending on how you look at it. It can be a fast paced environment at times. You could be one of the only associates in the store. You must be able to multi-task and take care of multiple consumers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I thought the management at GNC were actually very professional.

    I worked at GNC

    Pros

My boss was in training for nursing school, and the combination of his training and knowledge of nutrition made this a very educational experience.

    Cons

Having to meet certain sales targets every month for oddball things was not very appealing. And some of the other employees I worked with (same hierarchy level) were not necessarily the greatest people. But I'm sure that was more because of the area and education required for the role.

I have been working at GNC part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The main reasons to work here would be...
    increasing social skills
    decent pay
    flexible hours
    enjoyment of the supplement industry
    networking with potential sponsors

    Cons

    Numbers numbers numbers.
When you meet your sales goals, they will just increase your requirement, as they know you can do XXX, so they make you push to XXXX, and so on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on giving the customer what they want, and not only what GNC makes the most money off of.

I worked at GNC part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great discounts on quality products. The people you work with and for are all focused on the same goals - helping people succeed in their health goals.

    Cons

The requirement to sell a certain amount of GNC products even though there is a better quality product that could benefit the patron more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Educate the people better -- training can be lacking.

I have been working at GNC

    Pros

Learn sales. Stores are fun to work in.

    Cons

Lots if sales goals. Must be able to handle pressure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful in changeing priorities so often. Makes stores feel you are not certain about what you are doing.
