I have been working at Garda World Security full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Get paid on time, Good uniform

    Cons

Firing guards with not acceptable reason

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increasing of wage depends on the job requirments.
Expectation is higher than standard in most of the sites.

    Pros

coworkers - lower management - sympathize with each other when they are being crucified by upper management

    Cons

no growth unless you speak French
Upper management uses staff and throws them under the bus when it's their fault
Upper management is clueless, naïve, and are majority retired Air Canada employees
Your manager will mostly likely not know how to be effective manager
Everyday there is a fear that you will be fired, walking on egg shells no matter if you do your job right
You have to be "yes" person to survive in the culture, if you do what's right or speak up - you will be fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn leadership, management, and integrity maybe you won't have so much turnover. Stop promoting GardaWorld as a great place to work you are just lying and wasting candidate's time. Upper management don't be threatened by your staff if they do your job plus your job better than you!

Mr. Crétier if you are ruthless as a leader than kudos to you - your style definitely trickled down throughout your divisions.

I worked at Garda World Security part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Got to meet some decent guards and had some relaxed sites. Uniforms are free and they offer free training, but you don't get paid for it.

    Cons

Supervisors are control freaks and look for any faults. You're surrounded by uneducated people who think their cops, completely unorganized structure. No hours and you worked for minimum wage. The more experienced guards are cynical because they realized they can't be cops and they're stuck at Garda, so they end up taking it out on the newbies. You can tell no one wants to be there, even the guy who ran my orientation flat out told us he's trying to join tps. The atmosphere is just depressing and just plain negative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What is there to say you guys offer contract security.

I have been working at Garda World Security full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

good place for experience, and can be employed quickly as there's always vacancies. Just get your security licence and you're good to go.

    Cons

management out of touch and they dont care about employee issues. Incredibly high staff turnover, but that seems to be the norm in the security industry around here

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

spare a moment to listen to employee grieveances

I have been working at Garda World Security full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Provides steady income
    -looks good on resume
-solid company polices, most things on the book

if you ever come up to a chance for a better employment opportunity, which you will, go for it, do not think Garda will treat you well, its the same as every other company even if, and especially because it is the largest company right now. Pay and job title speaks words, company name speak little.

    Cons

-office politics when it comes to complaints and something needs to be done
    -poor benifits package
-integrity to the company is punished
-you have to consider the union fees in your wage

if you are about to do something site or company general approved of but not on paper, make sure you do it smartly, do not get caught, company will never save you for your integrity to the company.
if there is ever some sticky situation, if you can do something about it, and if you can choose not to, just don't do it, call mobile, call the client, don't get your own hands dirty because of it, the union, the company DOES NOT have your back covered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

preference to seniority, even when they are in the wrong is never the best idea. If they can, they will, don't forget that.

I have been working at Garda World Security full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The pay is decent when you add up all the premiums, you get to work in different environment very other day, you meet different kind people if you're lucky you might get a good contract with a stable salary.

    Cons

They don't care about their employees's we'll being, not a career job and money is more important then the staff. Have been working for almost 8 years, I've been in many life and death situation while on duty and I've never received a letter to acknowledge my action.

I worked at Garda World Security as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Garda are a huge international mult facet business. So you know they are not going anywhere like Aeroguard.

    Cons

They are so big they don't take the time to build solid working relationships with thier staff and treat everyone like a number. Management sit in the back office and work with numbers then complain to the staff if they are not hitting the magical metrics that they need to look good. If you ask those Manager's how to change the numbers they will not be able to give any answers that add value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff that work on the floor and have been doing the job for years. They are going to be able to tell you the areas of improvement required and where things need to get better. The so called management staff that work in the back offices who think they know the best thing for the business do not work on the floor in the actual work environment and do not know what they are doing. Management preach culture and values but do not uphold it or notify staff about what it is.

I have been working at Garda World Security

    Pros

Garda offers various positions in various locations.
    Friendly staff.
    Understanding team.

    Cons

    No chances for advancement.
Sites require no specialties or training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More opportunities should be available for advancement within the company.
There is little motivation at many sites to want to excel towards something.
In comparison to Paladin Security Garda lacks structure, organization and opportunities for the future. Part-time employment is all Garda is for many.

GARDA Great for Summer Students, Hardly a Career

I worked at Garda World Security

    Pros

Incredibly flexible hours. I worked as a temporary employee (for several months at 50-70 hours a week) and was given all of the hours I could want, by virtue of working at several different sites. The work was easy - mostly sitting around with lots of time to do what you want and get paid for it, while waiting for the few minutes of excitement that would come every few weeks (I am a student, and was able to complete a couple of calculus courses while on the job waiting for things to happen). Great place for students to work - really flexible hours, and the payrate was very reasonable for a student summer job in Canada.

    Cons

Very long hours and continuous new sites - must be incredibly adaptive and excited for change to feel comfortable as there is almost no routine. Some jobs could be VERY boring if one is unable to keep occupied (often music or reading was unallowed). Often had to work 2-3 night shifts a week (sometimes for 12 hours overnight) and, obviously, sleeping on the job is not allowed so this can be tough also (however, fewer things happen so it is sometimes possible to watch films or play video games, read, listen to music, etc. when working a night shift to stay awake).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stabilize temporary employees more fully on one or two sites - it wastes time always trying to find new sites resulting in sometimes being late, etc.

Work security is good. They always have work for you.

    Cons

Treated like a number. No actual contact with higher management.

Keep employees appraised of major changes BEFORE they read about it in the papers.
