    Solid Internship

Software Engineer (Former Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsGarmin has a very well thought out internship program. It is obvious that it is not the first time they have hired 170 college students for 10 weeks. Mentors are there for you when you need you but don't hover over your shoulder the entire day.

ConsI was only there a few months so it is hard to say.

    Senior Software Engineer

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat work life balance. Great benefits and time off policies

ConsSalary compensation could be better. Could be a little more transparent and a more open company.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great culture and great people to work with

Product Support Specialist (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsBenefits, company culture, laid back but hard working culture, health initiatives

ConsHard to move up. Several lateral moves available. Too many policy changes.

Advice to Senior ManagementGarmin is an innovative company but don't be too conservative as several products get to the market too late. Garmin needs to innovate early and be the first to market.

    Good not great

General Accountant (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsBest benefits around. Employer paid health, dental, and vision insurance, 401k match and pension, and stock purchase plan.

ConsLow pay compared to every other company around. No room to advance. If you aren't an engineer you don't matter. A lot of micro-management at all levels of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust the mid-level managers so you don't have to micro-manage every aspect of the organization. Keeping non-engineers happy is important too.

    Software Quality Assurance

Software Quality Engineer (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsRelaxed atmosphere. Some of the greatest, friendliest and smartest people you'll find in the Midwest. Awesome benefits. Advancement opportunities for lower end employees.

ConsHR and red tape. We have lost too many talented people because of minimalist raises that left too many people on the lower end of the pay scale compared with other employers. A "decent" raise is 3.5% while the average inflation is 4%.

Advice to Senior ManagementFrom a business standpoint they've got a great grasp on where the company needs to go. From a personnel standpoint see my above comment. An employees pay trends downward compared with inflation and is really half what it should be to retain employees.

    Nice, relaxing low stress environment

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsThe people here are very friendly and fun to work with. Interesting work most of the time. Great benefits, probably the best I'll ever see.

ConsManagement can be somewhat frustrating at times. Plans can change and there is a lot of miscommunication that occurs. Pay is a little low.

    Relaxed and friendly workplace

Product Support Specialist (Current Employee) Salem, OR

ProsThe workplace is very relaxed, the workers are very friendly, training is on-going for products, and the health benefits are very nice. Getting time off approved, for PTO, is a breeze, which is so nice compared to other places I have been.

ConsThe big con here is that there is very little structure for career path development. You have to pester and ask and ask, and no one seems to have a definite answer. Although I hear work is being done about that.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice is to update the career paths for people that are not interested in being on the phone, and wanting to make a career in Garmin that is not engineer related.

    Retro Spect

Setup Test Technician (Former Employee) Salem, OR

    ProsVery Professional and Friendly Co-workers.

ConsHard to find the Cons. Their were some confusion to if the Engineers we in charge at times or the Managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up with the connection that you have with the Production floor it does help the bottom line when they feel like you are paying attention to their likes or dislikes.

Good place to work, good benefits

Design Engineer (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsGood benefits, good work atmosphere, fun products, no dress code, good location if you like living in the suburbs, management is trustworthy.

ConsSalary is on the low side, most markets served are mature, management does not appear to know how to enter new markets or how to create new markets.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook into new markets or create new markets before all current markets become mature, saturated, and less profitable.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
