I worked at Gaylord Entertainment full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great culture, genuinely cares about staff (they are called STARS), free lunch daily, good work life balance.

    Cons

As you can expect in ANY hospitality job, hours are sometimes long, and you will at some point miss a Christmas/other holiday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None.

    I worked at Gaylord Entertainment

    Pros

Fun and professional atmosphere, beautiful campus

    Cons

Depending on the position, hard to work with co-workers, no penalty for calling in sick, no responsibility

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Oversee the bellstaff more and don't be afraid to fire someone who needs to be fired.

I worked at Gaylord Entertainment full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent Culture, great people, lots of fun!

    Cons

Bought out by Marriott causing many good employees to leave the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to keep the Gaylord Spirit alive. Marriott is cookie cutter, good company, but nothing like Gaylord.

I worked at Gaylord Entertainment part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The money was great most of the time. Employees received a discount on rooms and were able to get in free at the Glass Cactus. You were surrounded by an eclectic mix of individuals from all over the world. The food was impeccable.

    Cons

When you deal with such a large company, there is bound to be head-butting and gossip. The waiters and support staff did not respect upper management and upper management did not always conduct themselves appropriately. During certain times of the year a less than desired consumer base would descend upon the hotel (red hat society, ICE tourists).

    I worked at Gaylord Entertainment

    Pros

STARS (employee first culture), Benefits, Smiling faces who really want to work and make a difference. Large number of growth opportunities.

    Cons

Lot of politics. All decisions are not always in line with STARs first culture. Sometimes decisions are made more in favor of few key people instead of everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When making decisions think one step further on the impact on line STARS and mid-level managers and not just Leadership team.

  11.

    I worked at Gaylord Entertainment

    Pros

The company offers competitive pay, friendly peers, some flexibility, and an overall great work environment. It is definitely considered a top-employer in Nashville.

    Cons

The company can be very bureaucratic, especially in regards to management decisions. Often quick decisions are made without thorough and adequate knowledge of the complexities involved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers need to be attune to all levels within their departments. Understanding the various employee roles, and the challenges presented at all levels, will help upper management make decisions that solve problems long-term, versus just providing a temporary solution.
