I have been working at Geek Squad full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

None, other than being able to work from home

    Cons

    They dont provide functional tools
They just crack the whip and want more more more regardless of how the client is treated
You are no longer a human, just a number
They dont care about your home/work life balance, DCOs and Commanders are salary and can work whatever so the horrible scheduling does not effect them so they are not doing anything to fix the issue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, stop letting people who DO NOT work the queue or take connects to dispatch make the rules. STOP hiring DCO's just because they may have been a Tablet supe, they have no idea what they are doing.

Most importantly, If you treat your employees as disposable then your clients/customers will also become disposable. Constantly telling your employees they need to perform better and cracking the whip on people who are stressed out is not going to keep your staff. Take a good look and see how many talented people you have lost just in 2014. How many more are you willing to lose?

Completely downhill after Best Buy managed to oust Robert Stevens

I worked at Geek Squad full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you have a good manager who believes in you and believes in Geek Squad, you will have a good experience. Otherwise, forget it

    Cons

Best Buy did what they do *best*: buy something great and don't let up until they completely ruin it for everyone. Nine years ago when I started at Geek Squad I was amazed to find a home. A place where our Geeky souls could thrive. Robert Stevens was our Chief Inspector and fearless leader. Over the following years, Best Buy pushed and pushed until they got him out of Geek Squad and "promoted" him to some I.T. position, and then finally, he left.

With Robert Stevens out of the picture, the brightest and best quickly followed, and Best Buy sunk its greedy teeth in. It sees Geek Squad as nothing more than a cash cow to be milked until nothing is left.

The proud and noble Geek Squad of years past is gone. What remains is barely a shell of its prior greatness; a black and orange remnant of former glory. "Remade" until it is past all recognition. Altered, bled of all the culture and fine ideals that made it so great.

The Geek Squad Double Agents are almost extinct. Like the great Jedi, theirs is a dying breed. All but wiped out by the evil empire, is there none to save the dying Brand? Our Geek Squad? Or are these truly the final death rattles?

    Pros

I can't think of any at the moment. I probably couldn't think of any ever. I have to hit twenty words though so here we are.

    Cons

Everything was terrible. The pay as terrible. The employees were terrible. The management was abysmal. The customers were jerks. The schedules were terrible. Everyone was treated like garbage.

    Pros

In store discounts. You pay 5% more than the original price that best buy pays. You'll shop their often.

    Cons

You are hassled by managers to sell black tie protection at all costs, lie to the customers, and make sales no matter what or you will lose your hours. Under staffed, old outdated front computers, no tech training, just sell sell sell.

I have been working at Geek Squad full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

No education or even intelligence is required to get this job.

    Cons

Best Buy basically views this as a sales department and cripples your ability to actually help repair any product. Additionally they tend to hire and promote people or ideas that lend to this, as opposed to actually wanting to help their clients in any way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just put them in blue shirts and be done with it already. Best Buy has completely eroded what was once a good repair service to nothing more than sales in different clothes.

    Pros

Work from home, great job for entry level positions.

    Cons

Lower than average pay, poor hours (inconsistency in hours), management is all over the place, poor quality of co workers, consistent change in work flow dynamic that reduces overall efficiency

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This job could be so much better, so much more but inconsistencies ruin it

    Pros

Nice place, Nice break room with Big macs so you can use Facebook !!, Free Coffee :D, Friendly people and the dress code is fair..

    Cons

I worked their and on 2nd week they said you're not fitted this position ( repair tech.) which is so funny because i got my CompTIA A+ in Feb !!! so i'm internationally recognized as a pc repair tech. but because i'm not american so the supervisor was so smart and he realized in two weeks only that i'm not following their procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

when you write a post online say we need a salesman with some computer basics don't write about repair technicians please, and it's an entry level position so minimize the required qualifications it's not a senior systems analyst!!!! thank you

    Pros

Great discount, Mostly good employees, and it is fun to mess with non tech people.

    Cons

Low pay, poor management, High workload, and they expect you to sell stuff you wouldn't buy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Send your team leads and junior managers to COLLEGE! Get a degree that is actually business related. Learn to listen to your employees. Realize that you may have short term success but in the long run you are simply a statistic.
