I have been working at Genentech as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Great perks for Full Time employees !

    Cons

They hire very few of the Contractors ! I have seen some very qualified people leaving for Permanent or other Temp work! Also very low pay rate in our group for Silicon Valley.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Losing some very good potential employees with the revolving door policy on Contractors !

I have been working at Genentech as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Company has great career opportunities. You learn how processes run most efficiently in the industry. Online and classroom training is abundant, employees should take more advantage of that.

Excellent pipeline. Company constantly reminds you of helping the patients; you always feel like your work is rewarding. Employees are highly motivated and intelligent.

Great company to have on your resume, too.

    Cons

Roche is leaning towards hiring more contractors vs permanent employees. They favor seniority as well. Extremely difficult to get an FTE role. Very competitive environment and lots of politics. Lots of favoritism for random reasons. This is great company for seasoned people, but not necessarily for junior-level employees.

Lots of inequality between regular employees and contractors. This is unfair especially when both do the same quality work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your contractors and retain talent.

    I worked at Genentech full-time

    Pros

Still innovating. Lots of believers. Flex time. Excellent benefits. High ethics and standards. Big innovators in pharma without becoming "Big Pharma."

    Cons

I have heard it is less fast paced and innovative now than it was a few years ago. It is not clear if they will keep this spirit now that they have been acquired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let Genentech be Genentech. I'm not there anymore but don't loose what made you so successful.
