    Pros

Lots of overtime, a good job for someone who s single and has no family or no life!!!!

    Cons

They preach soo much about family and all of that and they dont care, you have to leave work...dont count on leaving without getting crap about it. if you need off for a weekend or something for a family gathering...dont count on it either, you would have to use your occurrences, which is nice but you only have 12 to use so if something goes wrong....ya gotta use an occurrence...the leads dont care and they always get rewarded either way even when other employees complain. there is favoritism for sure, if you dont know anyone your pretty much gonna be on the chopping block at the company. they are already getting rid of the temps and anyone who hasnt worked there a year has to find a new job withing the company because its slowing down...work-life balance is terrible the line was on 12 hour days during the week and then 10 hours on Saturday with Sunday off. people have been harassed so many times by my lead that he has ben written up, sued, all of the above literally, and he still is working there, just because of the favoritism...this place does not care at all about you. the production supervisor used to go around telling people they are a dime a dozen and screaming at them and pretty much treating them like dirt....ya def a place you want to work....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is none this place is gonna keep working but at what cost.

    Pros

Company Growth needs a vast overhaul of fair treatment of employees. Make company values a living, breathing reality for ALL associates!

    Cons

Failure of follow-through concerning training and development of valuable human resources.

    Pros

If you like working 80 hours a week and still get treated like crap, you will like it here.

    Cons

Where do you even start? The expectations are off the charts what anyone can do. They expect you to be super-human. Even if you are, they will still treat you very poorly. Almost no promotions from within (because everyone sucks). The planning is terrible, it changes weekly or daily. There is a reason they always have 30+ openings in engineering, because no one wants to work there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wow. Treating people like crap is not a good management strategy. Stop blaming the employees and look at yourself.

    Pros

Gave me a job when I was Laid off (low balled wages and vacation)

    Cons

    1. low wages (engineer)
    2. clueless management (no experience and talk down to a professional with more than 20 years of experience
    3. absolutely will not pay mileage to drive 25 miles between facilities (as a professional expect to run from one office to another for company business (subtract at least, the cost , of a tank of gas from your wages weekly))
    4. worst benefits I have ever had as an engineer
    5. the place is filthy and old (offices, the factory floor is worse)
    6. 3 bathrooms for 1000 employees
    7. no lunchroom (office people eat at their desk and factory employees sit on boxes or eat in their car
    8. management is completely disorganized
    9. program documentation is about 20 years behind the times
    10. 2 weeks vacation for a professional with more than 20 years experience (they told me absolutely not negotiable
    11. the only reason to take a job at generac is because you need money coming in until you find a real job
    12. In managements mind all software cost too much, so forget about having microsoft project, fea, mini tab, etc
    13. hardly any promotions from within
    14. people leave both the office and the factory floor, to find better positions regularly (thats why they have so many openings, all the time)(my department lost 9 people last year)
    15. Never take a contract position at generac. (serious 2nd class treatment and if they ask you to go direct (almost never) they low ball the wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1 pay wages that are comparable to others in the market and hire real experienced managers (or better yet, train people from within instead of pulling in unknown talent from outside)

    Pros

Leader in power generation. The company has respected products in their market and a great history. High potential for growth if changes are made to improve relations with employees and pay scale.

    Cons

Management is very ignorant of employees and respect they give. Very sub standard pay scales for area in technical help. Turnover is very high because of work environment and no attempt to improve it. There is a lack of a coordinated plan to manage projects to complete on time. Very vertically managed company with old school employees at odds with new innovative thinkers that could move this company into a higher class.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to address poor reputation as an employer in the area. Most people either get stung by this company and leave or stay away because of its reputation. Remove old school work environment office rules and become flexible and respect diversity.

    Pros

The best reason to work at Generac is if you are interested in the generator market and need experience.

    Cons

Management doesn't know anything. They can't communicate to save their lives. We learn about job critical information a day before the public does. We, the employees, have to constantly make excuses for upper management. I don't think management isn't from the same planet as the rest of us. Turn over in our department is more than 50%. My report to doesn't know the product and her report to is even worse - and she reports to the president of the company! Some of her great lines are:
    1) We are make 360 degree changes from what we used to do.
    2) Double $150 is $250!
    3) I really can see people having on average $46,000.00 in disposable income.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the biggest thing for senior management is to stop playing intra office politic's games. It seems like all they are trying to do is keep their jobs as they fire people below them.

Not sure how it made the top places to work...it's still touted, even though that was many, many years ago.

    Pros

The people are the best part. There are some very strong relationships that have been built and that make the company what it is today.

    Cons

The company just went public but doesn't have leadership that is experienced implementing the necessary changes to move from a privately held company to a public company. Employees are very frustrated by both the lack of direction and constantly changing direction. Also, if you are looking for flexibility that allows for some work/life balance, do not come here. Benefits are so/so, vacation package is poor and you're told there is no negotiation, until you find out the person next to you was given 3 weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire leaders that are have experience in a public company and not the home grown leaders you currently have who only have their experience from Generac to pull from.
