Good company culture but lacks direction and leadership.

Senior Systems Engineer (Current Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsFreedom and ability to work in a flexible work environment. Many leadership oppurtunites for people whi are motivated and driven.

ConsAt ttimes no strategy and lack of overrsight leads to lack of recognition. Ability to controll your own destiny in terms of responsibility but unfortunately as you grab more responsibility it is not rewarded from a compensation standpoint.

    Bright Minds but Disengaging Workplace

Business Analyst Intern (Current Employee) Rancho Bernardo, CA

ProsSmart, friendly, helpful coworkers. Relaxed altmosphere. Management is very lenient. Staying in the same job is not as tedious or boring as other companies and the company offers a lot of perks.

ConsCannot get much done unless you are extraordinarily driven. A lot of people just want to clock in- clock out. Time is valued over work.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuild a younger atmosphere with younger workers.

Pretty good experience overall, but had to leave due to inability to advance

Project Controls Analyst (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

    Pros-Other motivated and bright people
    -Interesting (high tech) projects
    -Nice facilities (at EMS)
    -Flexible schedules/hours

    Cons-No opportunity for advancement
    -Denied request for transfer
-Middle management can be lacking, but entrenched

Advice to Senior ManagementBe real with your employees - don't try to pull the shade over everyone's eyes. If things aren't going well, tell them. Don't just sugarcoat it and then berate people in meetings.

    Staid, old fashioned management style.

Senior Manager (Former Employee) Rancho San Diego, CA

ProsEvery other Friday off is nice!

ConsOlder, tiresome systems; managers have been there for ever.

Advice to Senior ManagementModernize! Get new, modern systems.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Engineer (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsStarting salary/wage. Main campus with fitness center, gym, cafeteria etc. Safety policies are well though out and practiced, not just the usual CYA. Procuring the proper tools and equipment is never an issue. Technology is on the forefront. Talented employees. Great company for your resume. 9/80 work schedule for most employees.

ConsNepotism, leading to unqualified supervisors and managers is frustrating. Some groups have cliques where it's more important to be in them versus your job performance. If you aren't 'in' with one of the cliques you should start looking for another job. Inconsistent work environment depending on which division/location you happen to work for. At the VP level some are abusive and unprofessional, openly chastising managers in front of employees with loud, foul language. The above average salary when you get hired will slowly return to average with minimal or no raises over a few years. Low-level employees are disregarded and highly-educated employees get much respect. Managers have too much discretion for increases, resulting in big raises for themselves, small raises for their "friends" and little to none for everyone else.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote based on talent and job performance. Treat all employees with respect. Improve working conditions at satellite locations. Stop hiring everybody's wife/sister/brother when they aren't qualified for the position. Stop the numbers game of offering the big salary to get someone in the door then no increases year after year. Diversify the business, too much dependance on federal government money.

    Fair

Mid Level Manager (Current Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsDecent retirement contributions, starting salaries are fair. Increases may be slim. Buildings are typically clean.

ConsSenior management is very arrogant and doesn't listen to their employees.
The company is stuck in the past. Some employees get frustrated quit and leave. Some quit and stay.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees. Many are very good.
GA-ASI seems to do a better job.

    Horribly unorganized and chaotic

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Poway, CA

ProsChallenging and meaningful work, industry leading products. A lot of good people to work with.

ConsManagement is poor and unreceptive. Director is controlling and a hindrance. Employees overworked.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet organized, quit talking (barking) over everyone, provide an environment that will allow for your employees to succeed. Provide a clear idea of project priorities and stop changing them weekly / daily.

    OK place to work

Engineer V (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsCampus in Torrey Pines is really nice (gym, pool, volleyball/basketball courts)
Generally laid back environment (good work-life balance)
Employees are generally good but highly depends on where you work

ConsManagement tends not to be very good
    Little, if any, job training
Poor job mobility (could be doing exact same job for 10+ years)
    Constant reorganization

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
