I worked at General Cable as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment, everyone willing to help teach the fundamentals of the job
Allowed freedom to create projects as an intern

    Cons

Not always support on projects, for various reasons:
-Not enough manpower to spare people for support
-Tight production schedule, unable to stop to make adjustments
-New methods met with resistance as workers had grown accustom to current methods

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better plan for co-ops, actually create project teams instead of talking about it

I have been working at General Cable full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Open culture, lot of opportunities for creativity and innovation. In real world many times brilliant and ambitious people don’t get chances to prove their ability, even in many top companies. If you are talented, hungry to innovate, have ideas for cost management, want to see your dream as commercial product, come here and have fun. I have come across few passionate tech's at early 20's, enjoying the technology learnings here. Work - life balance: Working hours 8 to 4.30, rest all your time, honestly human cannot work 8hrs
continuously, so have coffee, lunch, chat and work...

    Cons

Very competitive business, much depend on market dynamics and environments, as like all other typical manufacturing industries.

    Pros

Each day can yield a different challenge, there is no getting bored here. Business outlook and performance is steadily on the up. Opportunities exist for those that have the stamina and work ethic.

    Cons

As with any large corporation, there are several layers spread throughout. Communication/alignment is not always ideal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication and support between business units could be better. We spend a lot of time working on projects that others internally can offer support.

I have been working at General Cable full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Somewhat of a flexible schedule, mostly friendly people, constant contact and updates from upper management on the business, acceptable benefits, good on-site training, adequate pay. Upper management has been hitting a lot of home runs with acquisitions, and has a good eye on both the present and future in regards to the overall health of the company.

    Cons

Only two weeks vacation for first five years of career with company, lots of turnover in the HR department, HR is not an advocate for perks like tuition reimbursement (the main negative is some managers mislead applicants to think this is not the case), the raise and bonus situation is far too arbitrary, depending on the department one works in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

General Cable Corp. brings in billions of dollars a year, yet has hidden their collective wallet when it comes to adult continuing education opportunities. Your big failing as a company is not developing the talent you have on hand. Please stop disguising a cost of living increase as a "raise."

I have been working at General Cable full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is competitive, and they are trying to change the culture to improve employee satisfaction. They are becoming more global, giving associates access to those kinds of experiences.

    Cons

It is a relatively select few who get meaningful promotions. Personality and relationships are the primary factors determining upward mobility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To take the company to the next level of employee satisfaction, there needs to be access to the inner circle of the organization. A start would be more short term assignments, rotations, and promotion at middle and lower levels. It is time to take an honest look at who is performing and promotable.

    I worked at General Cable

    Pros

Great environment with positive colleagues, mentors, and bosses. Though, for a mechanical engineer I do not see much interesting employment outside of manufacturing.

    Cons

For a mechanical engineer I do not see much interesting employment outside of manufacturing. The work atmosphere was quite boring and unexciting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Well, i was only an intern so i mat not be able to provide an accurate review of the management at General Cable.
