Chameleon company too much concerned about its external image. Massive layoffs a NORM.

    Pros

Hard to speak of pros when all you can think of are cons. The only pros -- some of the people still working there (NOT senior level employees).

    Cons

Every corporation likes to preach about its core values of honesty, teamwork, trust, etc., including GGP. Sadly, at this company these core values have lost their true meaning, and have started sounding only too superficial and false since a few year back. Right now all GGP Senior Level cares about is the company's image, and hardly its people and their hard work. It takes them nothing to lay somebody off without a sufficient reason. "Company Restructuring" hardly does it anymore. No one working at GGP right now can have any confidence in the long-term future there. Anyone could be gone tomorrow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to what you are doing to employees. Massively laying people off without a proper explanation does not project a good image and reputation for the company.

Used to be a company I was proud to be a part of. Now, gravely concerned about current corporate philosophy & direction.

    Pros

Hints of former corporate culture still exist.

    Cons

Current corporate culture is one based in distrust and fear. Former Company core values of teamwork, integrity, honesty, etc have been shattered and plan to "flatten" the organization has only resulted in departments operating in bigger silos. Collaboration between departments is not encouraged and open communication has been lost. Employee strengths are not valued. And there is no sch thing as an open door policy with the new executive team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not assume you are an expert in every aspect of the business. Trust the strengths and experience of your employees and let them do what they do best and be open to hearing differences of opinion and new ideas. Do not insult the intelligence of your employees by pretending to be pro- employee.

Great before 2006, downhill from there to horrible by 2011.

    Pros

GGP is fine if you can thrive in an environment of fear and mistrust. A great place for a total "yes man".

    Cons

Don't expect personal loyalty from any level of management. Employees are now just numbers replaceable at any time.
It's now an every man for himself.
If you are a mid level manager past the age of 55 you are especially vulnerable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Whether the goal is to build a long term successful company or to build short term value for ultimate sale... the current culture in place ay thwart these objectives.
Leaders also need to take an interest in their employees, learn to be empathetic, remember your employees are real people with real world issues.
