I have been working at General Mills full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

On the cutting edge of technology, benefits, incentives and there is always something fun fun going on!

    Cons

Often difficult to move up or move around, once pegged as an "Admin" found it challenging to move into other types of jobs not categorized to be 'admin jobs".

I worked at General Mills full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great work life balance, benefits and investment in training. Excellent pay and bonus structure. You are encouraged to advance your career by rotating through multiple positions. Many benefits are available at the corporate campus such as daycare, outstanding cafeteria, auto care facility, company store, many services, etc.

    Cons

Extreme emphasis is given to college degrees rather than experience. The climate at corporate headquarters can be overwhelming for those not used to such an atmosphere.

I worked at General Mills as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Organization was managed extremely well. Company was doing well when I was employed so 401K match was doubled for all. Working environment was light and pleasant, and the workforce had good morale.

    Cons

Factory environment so very rigid work/break structure. Not a negative of the company as much as the career path.

I have been working at General Mills as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

They care about the employee and developing the employee and balancing work and life.

    Cons

None really. Only that if you're a software engineer, this is more of an application development shop and the pay is less than at other places. However, it's such a nice place, and there is very few layoffs here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at General Mills full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

"Generous Mills" - Cares about it's employees and focused on developing leaders.
Cross functional teams are best in class - highly talented and engaged
Lots of flexibility available if you can figure out who to ask and make it happen

    Cons

Career progression often based on tenure - not a lot of visibility to how to "make it to the top"
Conservative company focused on delivering consistent shareholder value - aka - tendency to be risk-averse which can be frustrating

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on promoting talent, not tenure
Empower the fresh young talent chomping at the bit post MBA

I have been working at General Mills full-time for more than a year

    Pros

General Mills offers several perks including generous vacation, 401k matching, and extras like a gym and salon at the office. The pay is very competitive and the company truly values its employees. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy at work and outside of work, too. Managers are highly competent and there are lots of opportunities for advancement or cross-functional moves.

    Cons

It is very "corporate"! Lots of forms to fill out and just general bureaucracy, which is not so bad if you are Type A. Let's face it, if you get hired, you are probably pretty Type A.
