    Pros

Genesis provides many opportunities for career growth and development. Their Leadership Development program is dedicated to promoting from within, and providing the tools needed to be successful in any management position. Responsiveness of upper management is excellent, while communication is open and honest. Pay scales seem to be fair and reasonable compared to other comparable companies.

    Cons

Balancing the mix of dedicated staff and unmotivated staff within the current nursing job market can be very challenging. While this is not a Genesis specific issue, it creates tension in the workplace that can be difficult to manage when there is no other resource to find new employees.

    Advice to Management

Maintain open channels of communication, continue to provide support to all facilities and always strive for more efficient operations. Through these areas of focus, the company will continue to adapt to the changing demands of the workforce and market.

    Pros

I enjoy the opportunity to work from home as needed. It helps create a great work/life balance. The people that work there seem to enjoy working there. You don't get that sense that they are there to put in their 8 hours a go home. It also is a great team environment. If you have questions there are people there that are willing to help you out and you don't feel like you are bothering them. The hiring managers are very helpful and see me as a valuable resource and someone that can help fill their need. They really do try and work with me to fill their openings.

    Cons

The benefit's package is not as competitive as others out there. They only give 2 weeks vacation, a very poor 401K program, cost of benefits is very expensive and if you work in the corporate office you have to pay for parking. Career Growth opportunities are a little hazy. Most companies boast about it, but do a poor job at communicating the career path that they offer. I see this more on the corporate side than the clinical. Also on a superficial level, we don't have casual Friday's which for the environment we work in, seems a little behind the times.

    Advice to Management

I'm not sure at this time due to being fairly new to the organization. A lot of my comments are very superficial in nature and I don't think would impact the company or offer solutions. I am very happy with Genesis, and they have worked through very toughs times and they are growing a very strong competitive company.

    Pros

Flexible job hours, good team environment. i like the people I work with and conditions are good, but not stellar. I would like a larger gym and more computers, as well as more focus on realistic outcomes.

    Cons

Emphasis on productivity, PPS and Medicare insurance billable minutes are more of the focus, than actual health care. Sometimes I would like to have more support from the company in the form employee wellness and more time off. I do like that you can flex your week, I would also prefer an hourly rate vs a salaried position. The health insurance offered is very expensive with high deductions.

    Advice to Management

Higher pay rates to increase retention, and loyalty, better benefits package.

    Pros

There is a lot of mobility available if you want to learn another role. People transfer all of the time and usually have the ability to do so within 6 months. It is also a place where you know you have the ability to make a difference in other's lives!

    Cons

You work very hard and for many hours - usually missing you lunch breaks... Depending on your role, you may have some very hard and draining days. Working with individuals who are elderly takes a special person. Even if you are not in patient care role, if you are in one of the centers you will be expected to work with the residents!

    Advice to Management

Being more open minded in your approach towards staff level employees.

    Pros

It's a stable company even throughout these tough economic times. The work/life balance is great. I work from home full time and enjoy that flexibility. The job itself is managable and I don't feel overworked or under appreciated. Senior Management geniunely cares about your professional development and strive to provide opportunities for you to acheive what you want.

    Cons

Benefits are dismal. I wish I could work in an office a couple days a week, but it's not possible due to my location. This will eventually what draws me away from the company. I miss working with a team. But that's not at the fault of Genesis.

    Advice to Management

    I don't have any.

Genesis Healthcare provides its employees with many educational experiences. They offer great benefits and many opportunities for growth and development.

    Cons

At the times the paper work at Geneis Healthcare can be very time consuming. There are not too many cons for working for Genesis.

    Advice to Management

i think that genesis management should be more supportive to staff and thank them more. Employee appreciation goes along way.

    Pros

I worked with excellent people. They gave us a great benefit package, as well as really great community benefits and discounts.

    Cons

It took awhile to receive market value wages and cost of living increases. With the economy still unstable, pay is a motivator.

    Advice to Management

Genesis seems to be undergoing many changes. However, it seems that these changes are not described completely to the employees making the changes harder to understand, except and support.

    Pros

Good pay Reasonable nurse/patient ratio Flexible shifts

    Cons

Sometimes management is not well define. Its like bosses from other departments want to boss around staff of a different department.

    Advice to Management

Revise quality of management. Some people are promoted because of whom they know rather than performance.
