    Pros

Genesis provides a great professional work environment. I was with the Cost Reimbursement Department for 17.5 years.

    Cons

The only con would be that there is another corporate office in PA and they are moving certain jobs to that location. which was the case in my situation.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to give at least cost of living raises to get quality people to apply and stay with the company on a long term basis.

    Pros

The hours were consistent, the schedule fit nicely with my life. I enjoyed going to work because of those I worked with. Despite the facility we were stationed at wasn't up to par, the people made the stay more homey.

    Cons

The conflict between nursing and therapy, whether it be scheduling or medications, what have you. Over the years, with a lot of hard work, it got better, but overall, that was one of the biggest challenges faced.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. If you have a qualified, hard-working candidate, don't take them for granted. Showed them they are wanted/needed, i.e. raise, promotion etc. I think upper management gets too caught up in their PM meetings and such to have time for those who are actually at the home caring for the residents.

    Pros

Better than average wages, good weekend differential

    Cons

Not enough staff. Upper management is unrealistic with patient to staff ration

    Advice to Management

If you don't overwork your staff by hiring a little more staff, you will retain the good ones you have because they won't be so overworked that they quit

    Pros

Lots of resources available, large company with many growth opportunities, education available for staff, many different career tracks, expanding/growing business.

    Cons

Systems are inefficient, decisions are made without input from the field, departments seem to be disconnected - right doesn't know what left is doing, not very strategic in planning and decision making, reactive, lost sight of staff and customers. iPods and desktops make documenting difficult.

    Advice to Management

Have someone at the top to guide all departments to ensure clinical decisions are compatible to operational goals and vice versa. There seems to be a lot of micromanaging happening and little discussion or input from those working in the field- get input. People will work harder and be more engaged if they feel like they are apart of it. There has also been a lot of changes in philosophy and planning - pick a strategy and stick with it for the long term, stop trying to change the focus every month with a new strategic report.
