    I worked at Genesys

    Pros

Exciting products. Global presence. Very smart engineers. CEO is a very good person, very smart and wants to do the right thing.

    Cons

No worklife balance. Constant lay-offs which contribute to the work-life balance issue. HR is very weak.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to hire a company to do an employee satisfaction and feedback survey. You have brilliant employees. Their voices have been silenced. Your employees know more how to solve problems and generate growth than anyone else. There are a lot of VPs who don't want to hear anything from their employees which is what has brought this about.

I worked at Genesys as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

There are high percentage of grads and they seem to be smart. I feel they know what they are doing and they are doing a good job there.

    Cons

As an intern, it was hard to learn anything because the managers seemed busy and expected you to produce without sufficient help. It was also difficult when your manager calls you 'stupid' because you did not have too much experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unless you are smart enough to complete everything on time and without much help, don't go there.

I have been working at Genesys full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good People to work with technically and socially
    Interesting technology
    Tele work available
New product line is strating to gain momentum in the market place

    Cons

employee moral is low due to internal re-org taking much longer than expected. Current executives only giving lip service to CEO - not actually walking the talk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that promotions are fair and given to thise qualified not those connected. There is too much of the ols Alcatel mentality still in the works.

    I worked at Genesys

    Pros

Great products, good sales force, loyal customers.
Some really great people work here
Flexibility with telecommuting for most positions

    Cons

Management is clueless: poor people management, no recognition other than for engineering, no sense of the workload created or the long hours most folks are working.

Very insular management group - boys network. Promotions few and far between and definitely targeted to men.

Genesys has been absorbed into Alcatel-Lucent and this has caused it to lose it's soul as a fast-moving, category leading software company - totally bogged down in the big corporate morass.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the sacrifices people are making; recognize all achievements; try to maintain some of the software culture.

I have been working at Genesys

    Pros

    Industry Leader
    Smart People
    Good products
    Global organization
    Rewards initiative

    Cons

    ALU reorganization is dysfunctional
Management disses company personnel to other ALU business units
    Poor top down communications
Becoming typical French company -- all major decisions from the top
People fired for political rather than performance reasons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restore Genesys to an independent business unit, or sell it off

I have been working at Genesys

    Pros

Market leader means doors will open. Handful of new products look interesting. ALU brought deeper pockets but it seems that Genesys is filling those pockets rather than drawing from them.

    Cons

Advancement is NIL. HR is useless when it comes to any career planning. Mgmt training is a joke and certainly not practiced internally. Product Marketing thinks bumper stickers represent vision. ALU is sucking out the cash rather than investing in the cash cow. Sales people have no incentive to promote PS to the customer -- project delivery can be spotty. Software releases are continually delayed as engineering staff have been cut past the bone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a CTO with a vision of the market and the role Genesys will be playing. The technology roadmap is a mess. Too many new products with too little explanation as to how the customer will benefit.
