    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

PTO, compensation,Insurance, Benefits only! only sperks was being full time to get benefits

    Cons

If you are honest , this is not the place for you. alot of back stabbing, lies, rumors, cover-ups, blame, non-professional, management, profanity infront of/directed at employees, bully tactics daily, threats made towards employees. You better do what your told even if unethical or your out of a job. If you have done nothing to lose your job, you will be pushed out with other tatics!!!!! Sorry BD!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When a branch of employees tries daily to report on going issues, and turnover is at an all time HIGH, take a close look at the leadership in all areas. When employess that have stood with the company for years through trials and tribulation are leaving and your leadership has only been in place for a year or two??? Something is not right!! value who has valued your company!!!! Great employees, help grow great business??? what do you really value?? as it looks, only the bottom $$$$$$$$$.

    Pros

I've given an honest attempt and there are none.

    Cons

Gentiva purchased a prosperous home health agency, founded by a family, with a stellar reputation and proceeded to destroy it. Gilbert's Home Care was the original company. Their clinicians and support people worked hand and glove for the good of the company while valuing the individual. Gentiva's culture is the polar opposite. Case manager's way of "handling" issues was to dump multiple referrals on the clinicians desk, while the existing list of patients was unrealistic from a numbers perspective. Patient's went without services, meanwhile, marketing efforts continued to physicians knowing that they could not fulfill the commitment they were promising. Questionable Medicare practices....too many to mention, but if they had to go thru a real audit, someone would be serving some time. One of the finest RN's I've had the pleasure of working with, was found to have cancer and thus she was off taking treatments. She had worked for this company for close to 30years. She was notified via mail that she no longer had a job....fact! Most of the clinicians have left and quite a few of their therapist are on contract from the Phillipines. This company is morally bankrupt.

    Pros

    None whatsoever to working here.

    Cons

Everything. Corporation is run by dishonest, morally destitute individuals. The local "management" has been successfully fired from four different positions over the years, but that was their ideal candidate for "management." They expect you to work excessively long hours for extended periods of time without compensation. On call means sitting by the phone and not moving. Worst company in the world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow up, take stock of your "management" employees and clean house. This could be a great company if it stopped the head in the sand approach to problems.

    Pros

The staff is awesome. Loved working with the patients. Any thing outside the office!

    Cons

The management both in the office and outside it is poor. They belittle and use threat tactics to manage the staff. The outrageous amount of paperwork, the large territory and the high acuity of the patients makes for long days. After working past 5 on most days then call starts. After call the on call weekends start making for exhausted burnt out employees. This however is not enough for the managers who sit in the office all day and instead of getting out helping their already strained and taxed staff they ask for more. On top of the full load they push admissions and don't have adequate staff to care for the patients they currently have. Once the patients are admitted they could care less about getting them the promised supplies, its as if they have already gotten the number/money for them and they are done. They have no loyalty to their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Doesn't matter unless you are friends of theirs they don't listen anyway. We are just expendable, interchangrable, low ranking pions. Our opinions don't matter.

    Pros

Benefits. Coworkers. There are some great people here but they end up leaving because they cant deal with the high school style atmosphere.

    Cons

Micromanagement, no trust in RN staff skills, NO consistencies in policies, VERY inexperienced managers who do not know how to deal with issues or day to day operations. New paperwork is a joke. This company makes millions yet the are waiting until the last minute to use EMR. No access to information makes it impossible to care for pt properly, or there is redundant visits due to no communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

LISTEN to your staff!!! Get some management courses/skills so you can actually manage your staff. COMMUNICATE with the staff.

Gentiva took a great hospice (Odyssey) and completely destroyed it!

Former Employee - Patient Care Manager

    Pros

Sadly, I can't think of any that Gentiva hasn't destroyed - decreased benefits, destroyed working environment, poor reputation leads to hiring of under qualified staff and local managers are not equipped to train or supervise. Hiring process is a joke, regional vice presidents and area managers are unnecessary and costly level of management.

    Cons

Company is now only concerned with the bottom line - no longer care about the patients or employees. Very sad! And I almost forgot -- no raises for 3 of the 5 years I worked there!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You cannot run a hospice like a home health if you want to be successful. The businesses are similar only because the patients are cared for in their own home. The goals of care are different. The regulatory expectations are different. You also need to work at identifying the wolves in sheeps clothing. There are MANY who talk the talk - and do an excellent job at it. I was unable to locate anyone in upper management (regional level and above) who could actually walk the walk. But I guess you don't really need to worry about it because all of the hospice patients will be dead anyway. They and their families are the ones being hurt!! Lastly, I do believe my work is my calling. That is why I left - caring is my calling - not providing minimal care so the stakeholders (and management) can make money!!! (On a personal level, as a PCM, I couldn't even enjoy the incentive package - the money I got was on the backs of hard working employees (who have all left!) - they got nothing, I was left with guilt!
