    Pros

    I enjoyed the people that I worked with directly, (in the office)

    Cons

    Upper management did not seem concerned about branch employees. Not many perks on the job, did not feel really appreciated for the work provided as field employees and managers. Little or no raises, and never any bonuses or incentives given.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Ask the opinion of employees when implementing major changes, and reward employees for work well done.

    Never enough employees to do all the work that needs to be done in a day.

    Stop hiring upper management and hire more employees for work in the office of the branch.

    Overwhelmed

    I have been working at Gentiva full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Gentiva has good benefits and competitive salary. Gained experience working with patients in their own environment. New challenges every day.

    Cons

    Call mandatory and consist of 7 days straight with weekends scheduled as regular work day. Very difficult to maintain balance between home and personal life due to working on paperwork at night and even on days off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to your employees. Remember nurses have families at home and need time away from office to prevent burnout.

    Get to know the employees better and be more open about the things that impact them. Good or bad, they're more likely to accept changes better.

    Pros

    They do have good benefits, PTO is good for those who have been there greater than 10 years.

    Cons

    Pay per visit is good as long as there are visits. Buzz word now is to "pass off to the paraprofessionals" which means more money to the bottom line. Branch is cyclical in referrals and for RN's and PT's during some times of the year, visits can be low. This means you do not make your productivity nor do you make enough money to live on. Again, it is all about profitability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Develop a more concise working model that will allow your clinicians to continue to work and get compensated even if referrals are not there. It is very difficult to work daily and then worry if you are going to make "ends meet." Passing off all of the visits to a lesser paid clinician is great for your bottom line, but discouraging to ours. I am forced to look for work elsewhere.

    Pros

    People caring for the patients (for the most part) do a great job under stressful conditions.

    Cons

    Communications from Corporate on policies and procedures are rare and not well thought out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Remember that the people on the front line are the face of the company to the patients. Make sure they are happy and taken care of. If they are happy, then it will translate into stockholders being happy - not the other way around.

    Decent pay and friendly coworkers

    Cons

    Be ready to work 24 hours a day. It will be expected of you. Management is incompetent. Not interested in what their work horses have to say. Don't let their slogans fool you....Gentiva is all about productivity and numbers from the top down.

    It's hard to listen to your employees when you're doing all the talking.
