I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College full-time

    Pros

Beautiful, clean campus, free parking, lots of choices for places to eat without ever leaving the campus.

    Cons

Most of the departments do not communicate with each other which creates a hostile environment for the most time.

    Advice to Management

Unify the campus from the top down

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible with schedule Networking prospects Being involved with the school.

    Cons

-Lots of red tape -ignoring students workers needs in departments. -too much focus on academics, they think anything not academics should get no budget or say. -improper use of student tuitions. -very disorganized, last minute events. Wasting students' funding. -student workers are students too and should have a right to know what their money is being spent on. - No evaluations on how student worker is doing. - no response to misconduct

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what students are using in the building. Dining hall and Game room are break places for students. the game room is a therapy for students stressing and wanting to belong on campus. Having broken equipment for years and no funding for it is unacceptable. Ignoring your workers and having budget meetings where they are not even on any of the meeting is disrespectful and sets a tone that students workers aren't valued.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get plenty of time off. Newer equipment (when it works, but good luck getting help from IT)

    Cons

The President does not have much control on his underlings They continuously try to re-invent the wheel with lackluster results Knee-jerk reactions to everything They allow anyone and everyone to attend. If a student can sign a financial aid form, they can attend

    Advice to Management

Then the herd a bit and find VPs that work better together for the greater good of the school and not individual gains.

  7. A great place to work under the first president but declining due to new leadership.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There's lots of flexibility to work on different things. College is still young (less than ten years) so few entrenched ways of doing things that can't be changed.

    Cons

Where to begin? GGC is chronically understaffed and when staff are added, it's often based on who has the ear of the new president. In fact, that generally describes how resources are allocated at GGC. Note: My "CEO" rating is based on the new president, not Dr. Kaufman who was amazing but has since moved on.

    Advice to Management

Work for the good of the college rather than the good of your department and/or your friends/old connections.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility in work time Ability to make a career change if desired Tuition assistance for extending your education The college has a good core mission and values. They operate much like a start-up which is refreshing to see for a college where things can be beaten down by bureaucracy.

    Cons

The salaries aren't what you'd make in any corporate setting Raises are few and far between unless you change titles The college is very new, so some procedures that you may be used to may not exist yet.

    Advice to Management

Open up more training opportunities for employees. Don't be afraid to let your employees have more of a direct impact on the student population.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone who works here is more than happy to lend a hand, or offer a suggestion, even if you're in the middle of a session or they are. It's a very welcoming environment for staff and students, and the management really lets you take the lead on things and set the pace in the workspace.

    Cons

Unfortunately, this soft-managing has repercussions, specifically when it comes to the student assistants and their understanding of what it is we "do." Many times they will seat us with a student who thinks they're getting their paper edited, only to have us tell them this is in fact the one service we do not offer.

    Advice to Management

Get everyone on the same page. Have your tutors understand what it means to tutor the student in writing skills and strategies and not to edit the work for the students themselves. Have the student assistants learn the same, especially the fact that we do not edit. Rhetoric is everything, and the assistants are the first line of defense when it comes to making sure students understand what the writing center is for, and how they can best utilize its services.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a student it can be tough to get a job. GGC has many different jobs available for students and takes great care in utilizing as much of its student population as possible.

    Cons

I have not experienced any real cons except that there are no full-time positions for students. So without full-time status there are no health benefits.

    Advice to Management

    Full-time capability would be excellent.
