I have been working at Georgia Tech full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Jobs at GA Tech are stable jobs.

    Cons

Job titles do not necessary match compensation, perhaps the educational job market is less lucrative than private job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to match private business wages for GA Tech personnel do not work any less than those employed by the private enterprises.

Graduate work worth the effort in the end when you graduate.

I worked at Georgia Tech part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The secretaries, department heads and students are all extremely helpful. The research you work on is extremely interesting. The name on your resume causes companies to be interested in you if you have a well written resume.

    Cons

The pay is too low for the city of Atlanta. I realize we are grad students but 22K/year is in the poor level. Additionally a lot of that pay goes to extra fees. You work extremely long hours (14+hours/day, did 18 at one point) as a graduate research assistant. There is no planned vacation days although technically you are allowed two weeks off which I have never seen occur. Finding / communicating with bosses can be difficult which sometimes leads to massive project slowdown.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to have a well defined vacation policy for graduate research assistants. Increase pay or improve benefits.

  10.

Good benefits but can be a negative work environment

I worked at Georgia Tech full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Really enjoyed the retirement benefits and healthcare was also not bad. Somewhat flexible with regards to working hours when working in the labs. Salary seemed fair (but not great). Great resources for anyone wanting to do research.

    Cons

When I had trouble with my boss, HR was very unresponsive to my concerns. I'm not one to complain unless really necessary, so I felt disappointed that no one seemed to care about my issue.

I have been working at Georgia Tech full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Generous Tuition Assistance for University System of Georgia Schools (TAP) or out-of-state schools (STRAP)
    Higher education environment
Able to talk to management and senior management about issues or ideas

    Cons

    Unprofessional co-workers
    Weak middle management
    Lack of growth within department
Pay is abysmal for such a well endowed institution in the heart of Midtown (1% merit raise only for 15% of state employees)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

President Peterson is great! Middle management...not so much
