    Pros

Who doesn't love great chocolate ! Liberal vacation, matching 401, normal big business insurance coverage. Upper management keeps all employees very informed on business progress and outlooks.

    Cons

Management cliques - different groups tend to circle their wagons rather than address the problem. The Manager I worked for never had my back if it was a company political issue while he himself was fair my position required me to work with some unreasonable and psychological bully type managers. I always stood my ground.

    Advice to Management

Since I left many of the bully type managers were discharged or left. Unfortunately Ghirardelli will never know how many good people they lost because of too little way too late.

    Pros

The best experience you can get from what the retail and food Industry really is.

    Cons

A lot of unnecessary problems that was created because of neglect and false accusations. They do not care about who or what you are capable of. The success of your shift is only noticed but not considered as a great job. There are a lot of redundancies and faux pas this company needs to work on. The batch of employees I applied with had no proper training or anything we were pushed to the soda. Fountain then left to our own devices. Especially with who they put as GM's. They may care about sales and profits but will not take care of their employees. You might get thrown a bone here and there but no big efforts to thank your hard work. They will thank you for doing inventory counts which the inventory manager is supposed to take care of that him self.

    Advice to Management

Take consideration of how hard an employee works instead of how big your profits and sales are and stop thanking employees for the profits and sales thank them for the hard work they put in where ever you see the hard work instead of either purposely putting the employees down thinking and saying they don't know anything ... And they don't know because they never told them about what they are supposed to know.

    Pros

Easy work, good pay, guaranteed hours especially in the summer and holidays. Fun work environment; great, funny, outgoing co-workers and great supervisors (minus the GM.) Time and half on holidays and free menu items on each shift.

    Cons

There was only one con to working here and that was the General Manager. Seriously. Extremely condescending and on the verge of sadistic, especially to Fountain workers. Would constantly say rude and just plain mean things about employees behind their backs. The usual chit-chat/laughter would cease as soon as he came around and loud groans filled the work room when we knew he was scheduled to work that day. Not only that, but we would constantly be running out of chocolate (yes, in a chocolate store) and scrambling to find alternatives for those free samples and bags on display.

    Advice to Management

To the GM: learn to run a store properly and lead by example and not by fear.

    Pros

Some great, friendly co-workers. A charismatic and passionate CEO with a vision for the company. Chocolate is a fun product to work with, and Ghirardelli is a respected, premium brand. A growing and evolving organization presents career opportunities for those whose talents are recognized by their managers.

    Cons

Work-life balance can be challenging for some roles. Can be a very political environment, with a number of selfish middle managers who are more interested in advancing their own careers than building a better team. A number of inefficient, manual processes and a lot of tribal knowledge. Difficult to learn this organization at the beginning with ineffective on-boarding. The HR team has made efforts to improve communication, but continues to lack important competencies and mis-handles situations, revealing questionable integrity.

    Advice to Management

Find great leaders and mentors to inspire a healthier and more collaborative organization, at all levels of management. Show you value talented individuals with meaningful and tangible actions, before they decide to leave.

    Pros

Of course, the best chocolate in the world. At corporate, the people are a great bunch to work with, and the benefits are good. The caliber of managers is pretty good; for the most part employees are treated fairly. \You have to enjoy your job to be here, and of course, love the products!

    Cons

Sometimes - long hours to accomplish goals.

    Advice to Management

Treat your people right and they will take the company where you want to drive it.

    Pros

Always able to have some chocolate if you want to. If you work in the marketing department, you likely will be promoted.

    Cons

Upper management does not follow through with promises made. Many individuals do not take responsibility for their actions and try to place blame on someone/something else.

    Advice to Management

Leadership should be just that, be more informative and follow through with what you say. Talk to your employees and and lead them in the direction you expect them to go.
