    Love hate relationshop

Stock Clerk (Former Employee) Baden, PA

ProsGood hours, good people, decent pay for a part time job. Overall I didn't mind going to work which says a lot for my first job, I think. I actually really liked my bosses and they were understanding and easy to get along with.

ConsWeird scheduling, boring work sometimes. The job itself could be mundane and boring but the hours weren't too long so it was nothing unbearable.

Good starting job but not a long term position

Fuel Station Attendant (Current Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

ProsStraightforward, empowering workplace. Great 401K and pension plan. Managers, in general, feel more like friends than bosses. It's very hard to get fired. Flexible schedule.

ConsLack of major promotion potential. Disproportionate work ethic between employees. Corporate communication between stores is lacking.

    Great store

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

ProsStore has a lot to choose from, also deli hot food is very very good, and the workers thru out the whole store are so nice and pleasant, which make shopping a lot better. Bakery is wonderful also and with the meat and all others stuff, just great , clean and nice.

ConsA little bit pricey, but still will take for nice and friendly and clean.

Advice to Senior ManagementMight need a few more people to work, sometime to check out takes forever, or waiting on other depts also can be slow due to not enough workers.

Great job and built my career there

Business Analyst (Former Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

Pros- Recognizes talent and promotes from within
    - Great work/life balance; ability to work from home when needed
    - Never boring; always challenging; great co-workers

Cons- Pay was low; when I left, I was shocked at how low I was paid; benefits were good though
    - Nepotism was a problem when i started in corporate
    - Issues with expectations, especially around budgeting; layoff seasons were too often and I saw a lot of good people let go

Advice to Senior Management- Plan better for staffing; and this goes for the corporate offices; do not over hire then, when times get tough, let good people go; plan for tomorrow
    - Review pay against others in the area better; worked as a business analyst for 5 years and was priced well below market

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Not bad

Overnight Stock (Former Employee) Leechburg, PA

ProsPeople were great to work with and you were kept busy as I was on the night crew.

ConsThe union was not worth the dues. Pay should have been better and the union didn't seem to care about the workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo real advice

I had a great experience working for Giant Eagle!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Sarver, PA

ProsMy manager was very helpful with meeting my scheduling needs and it was a great environment to work in.

ConsI felt that some managers did not have the employees backs when faced with customer problems. Also, that certain situations were made more difficult for the employees to deal with because of upper managements decisions on how to correct the situation.

    Cashier / Self Checkout Attendant

    Cashier (Former Employee) Rochester, PA

ProsThe company does care about its workers and will stick its neck out for people. They will work around your schedule.

ConsStarted off making 7.25 per hour and end making 7.85. Everyone no matter what department made the same amount depending on the length of employment. Felt they didn't pay equivalent to the work that needed done.

Great experience with friendly and intelligent people

    Intern (Current Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

ProsThe people I worked with were both smart and nice and the projects that I was assigned were very interesting. I learned a lot during my internship there and had plenty to speak to in future interviews. The experience was one-of-a-kind and very hands on.

ConsThe downside to interning at Giant Eagle is that there are seldom any job openings for new hires.
