I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very friendly and team oriented. Forward thinking company and is working to implement many new concepts into the stores. Benefits include vacation days, personal days, healthcare insurance which includes eye care and Rx coverage. Must be part of the UHCW union to receive insurance benefits by working 14 hours/wk. Corporate employees receive insurance at 30+ hours.

    Cons

Training for Rx techs is on the job which makes things hectic to say the least. It can be hard to get trained in certain aspects because it is easy to get stuck on a register because it is the only thing you really know when starting. There is a lot of room for improvement and growth if you are able to work in a store that is good at training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rx tech training could be more in depth. Training covers the basics but starting in the pharmacy is completely different than training.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Generally speaking everyone is super nice, supportive, and friendly. If you're lacking in your ability for doing some task, there are people who are willing to help you and teach you (but they won't just do it for you.. you have to learn it which is something I appreciate). You are allowed to switch departments with permission of course, and there are good benefits like the team member referral program, care fund, and things like that. They also have great policies that protect the employee against workplace retaliation so you feel safer speaking out about ethical issues in the workplace. They also can help you pay for school if you've worked there for over a year and over 300-something hours. You also receive 10% off GIant Eagle Own Brands which is awesome! Oh, and you also get paid every week.

    Cons

Cons include low pay, lack of training (they seem to believe in the "let's just throw you out there" method), almost no medical benefits, and very varying hours (14-35 hours per week) with no set time of day if you're available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are so many great programs and things that are worth sticking around for (care fund, school assistance, etc) but the pay is so terrible it honestly isn't beneficial to spend 8 hours at a time there for a very small amount of money. It's hard work and it feels unrecognized!

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with good people most of the time Pay scale was competitive. Flexable work schedule is desirable. constant and steady work is always there.

    Cons

advancements are considered by who you know, not what you know. Your accomplishments are overlooked, credit goes to the wrong person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to reliable, honest, and hard working employees when they give their all, tell you their heartfelt opinions,
