Alot of fun people, and acitivties to bond employees. The company has this amazing party every year for Halloween and they go all out for it.

    Cons

Very fast paced and some times they should stop and take a minute to think a plan through

I have been working at Gilt Groupe full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Ability to work off site. The benefits were great. Loads of free snacks.

    Cons

Absolutely no work life balance. Mangers do not trust you when working from home. Unlimited vacation is only for the senior managers. There really is no time for vacation when there are people leaving almost every month and your expected to pick up the slack.

I have been working at Gilt Groupe

    Pros

Great discount on products and great vacation policy. Most everyone working here is very bright.

    Cons

If you are one of the executives "chosen ones" you can get promoted quickly, if you're not good luck. The HR department is terrible, and people have been leaving the company in masses lately.

I have been working at Gilt Groupe full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You will meet cool people and make good friends. Go out drinking after work and enjoy a well stocked pantry. Sporadic but fun activities for employees and a good place to learn. It is interesting to see and learn the behind the scenes of a .com and the bi-weekly meetings are fantastic to understand the health of the business. A nice office (which is great to bring people to) and you have the ability to work from home (if you have an understanding manager). There is no vacation policy (although the majority of people don't actually have time to travel) and you get a decent employee discount (not on high-end designers). Finally, this place provides you with a good launching pad to work with both the best of them and worst of them in order to prepare you for other opportunities.

    Cons

If you notice the positive reviews are from employees who work in the distribution centers or tech. They have completely different types of management. The majority of the teams have managers that aren't qualified to manage and lead other people (hence the high turn-over within many teams). You will get more work accomplished if the people who need to do your work like you on a personal level. Management pushes you to close deals but don't provide you with the support needed to accomplish those goals and the other teams fight you on everything instead of working towards a common goal. You have people in position of directors that have no experience within the particular field they oversee and do a great job of faking it and taking credit for other people's work. The executives are so swamped that they don't seem to understand the issues within certain teams and are ok with just the status quo. The growth development is just not there.... people get promoted based on their relationship with the head of the department and their exterior presence... promotions have not been merit based which is sad because there are people that have been there for years and have done great things but drew the short straw with management thus they remained stuck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Involve your team members in decisions that will impact the team, especially if it will impact the team members that will be forced to carry out those decisions. Please hire people who actually care about the growth of the people who report to them and who don't just care about their personal development or fake a happy attitude to please the executives. Put in place measures within the HR team so that when employees express their concerns action is taken - there is a bad habit of HR speaking with many people to get a grasp of what's going on with certain departments but sadly nothing is ever done to fix the situation - the bandaid method does not work here when money is at stake. More importantly put people in HR who belong there and who actually hear what the employees are saying and are not dictating a response back from a manual they were forced to memorize. If you see that more than 2 members have resigned from a team, take a deep look at the core issues instead of replacing the bodies... because the issue is from the management team. There is also a huge divide in salary - there are people who make more simply because of a graduate degree that haven't necessarily contributed to the bottom line and you have people who have put in their blood, sweat and tears and do not make industry average. The areas of the organization that needs transparency, democracy and better management are Marketing, Business Development and Merchandising... these teams have had the best talent and have not done enough to retain them.

I have been working at Gilt Groupe full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I love my team. I love knowing that they have my back and they know I have theirs. The company tries hard to stay on the cutting edge and it's always fun an exciting to work with the latest and greatest technology. The CEO is great and very supportive. They are very supportive of families and women in technology. Great atmosphere.

    Cons

Middle management can make the environment difficult and stressful due to lack of or failures in communications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you're investing in your future and not just the present. You've got an amazing team but sometimes your managers have to say no to demanding employees.

If you are not management or HR you really do not exist there.

I have been working at Gilt Groupe

    Pros

Positions are not too physically demanding.

    Cons

People are not treated with respect and it shows in morale. Jobs have very poor ergonomics. HR needs a training course on respect and doing their jobs professionally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure all workers are valued equally because it takes ALL workers to make a company a successful one.
