Must be SHADY to work for Gilt

    Customer Support (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

Prosdecent pay, relaxed dress code, nice free treats in employee kitchen.

ConsHaving to field Numerous complaints about the goods that Gilt provided and not being able to offer resolutions. Just google their customer reviews.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on quality customer service and not just the quantity of the calls answered.

    Unprofessional supervisor

    (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

Pros• Gilt Credit to your account. Company discount on website
    • Sleek office environment
    • Smart (and friendly) coworkers
    • Fast-paced workplace with many challenges and a high learning curve

ConsThe perks end here. Depending on the team, experiences can vary. I hope someone will take note of the below and consider twice before committing to working here.

    • A lot of managers don't support and are hardly ever around when needed. If you're looking for even a bit of mentorship, look elsewhere.
    • No work-life balance.
    • Fast-turnover, speaks for itself.
    • Positive, cheerful facade over a crumbling managerial structure. HR is not helpful.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo senior executives: please put more emphasis on growing and recognizing the achievements of your non-managerial employees. As a previous reviewer mentioned, hire managers that will guide them in the correct path towards success. Please reevaluate your managers based on their ability to be a solid manager (not just to do their own job). This may be the one downfall of an otherwise great company.

    Supervisor

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros• Monthly Gilt Credit to your account.
    • Gilt events
    • Company discount on website

TRUST ME THAT IS ALL YOU WILL LIKE ABOUT THE COMPANY!!!

Cons• Be prepared to be talked down to.
    • People are only promoted based on how much they like you.
    • Raises are in cents not dollars unless you are a favorite employee.
    • Mangers don't support
    • Manager are hardly every around when needed
    • They work you to the bone and don't compensate you for it after.
    • They give praise towards employees that Don't do anything all day if they favor you.
    • You will mostly of not always hear about the negatives instead of the positives.
    • They treat lower employees who are not in manager positions like they are to be seen and not heard.
    • Your opinion is not wanted so don't try to give it.
    • They don't care about your personal feelings or life.
    • Working for Gilt is like signing your soul to the devil.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees the same way you will want to be treated. Guide them in the correct path towards success and not failure. Stop being condescending all of the time. Please get rid of the I don't give a rat about mentalities and show some kind of compassion at times.

    Decent part-time gig

    Customer Support Associate (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThere's no work to take home and it isn't extremely hard or stressful. It seems that way during training but it gets better. They let you know how you're doing and reward you when you do well.

ConsNot enough hours. You need a manager's approval for practically everything but they are never around to assist or don't give you a definitive response on how to handle a call. Management is either really unprofessional, seem annoyed by questions you ask, and some are even extremely passive-aggressive

    Friendly, But Empty-Worded

    Customer Support (Current Employee)
    Portland, OR

ProsNice people... good employee discount. Decent stipend for full-time employees.

ConsDistinct changes occurred with frequency, but CS was the last to hear about it; even though CS is the first contact with the customer.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand and absorb the concept of transparency. You are becoming increasingly corporate in the roboticism of your operations, your lowest employees (CS) arguably feel it hardest. In the Portland office, our direct managers didnt even know what was going on; beyond the obvious posturing that eventually led to your closing the Portland office on May 15th.

Nobody will have a willingness to "live and breathe" Gilt, the more you reduce employees' experiences to a cog-like replaceability.

    Beware of Operations

    Operations (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGreat company, work with interesting vendors. I'd recommend this company but only certain departments.

ConsOperations: Management is cliquey and condescending. They push you too hard. Your job is below them and they don't offer to help with what you do when you are overwhelmed. Instead, they try to figure out better 'processes' and point the finger. Never been so unhappy with a department in my years experience in the job force and I'm not the first one of my co-workers to say that.

    Advice to Senior ManagementLess micro-managing.

    Total lack of supervisory support

    Customer Support (Former Employee)
    Portland, OR

    Pros-Great snack room
-Awesome products on website with employee discount

ConsGilt Groupe uses a number of offices to staff their customer service operations as well as a work from home team. I was a member of this work from home group who consistently lacked management support on basic issues. Technical difficulties we constant and the IT support from the home office was both rude and unhelpful. Some of the supervisors are smart, competent people but their intelligence was overshadowed by their utter disregard for the needs of their employees. Additionally, the in-house and work from home team were treated differently on a number of occasions.

Advice to Senior ManagementGilt Groupe, please disband the work from home team. Your employees hate it.

My experience at Gilt was sub-par, hectic and I was really there just for a paycheck .

    Accounts Payable Coordinator (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGreat vibe to the company along with it being in a cool new, growing industry. There are lots of opportunities to here about different departments and management keeps employees abreast of the company with its weekly "all hands" meeting.

ConsLong hours. Room for growth seems difficult. Poor work-life balance , and some bad decision making. I feel that Gilt is to caught up in expanding and growing without first properly establishing its foundation. There's nothing wrong with expansion, however the balance of doing that and solidifying the core is not there.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would suggest that Gilt stop trying to expand and focus more on 2 or 3 of it's top business models (Gilt Groupe, Gilt City and Jetsetter). There are still several improvements that need to be made to the core of these units and the continuous expansion will hurt Gilt overall. They are striving really hard to go public and I don't see that ever happening.

A startup with a corporate atmosphere.

    (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

    Pros- Employee discounts are great.
    - Quarterly allowance is always a plus.
    - Flexible time off.

Cons- Company is becoming more corporate so expect politics and red tape.
    - Advancement is not based on hard work so you'll need to play politics to move up.
    - Morale has been on the decline so expect a lot of turn over.
    - Teams and departments do not communicate well and upper management tries not to communicate at all.
