I worked at Goldman Sachs as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    - good name on CV, high profile company
    - lots of learning experience, work with SOME smart people not everyone is smart

    Cons

    - too political
    - say you will be promoted and nothing happens
    - people take too much recognition for other peoples work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't work people so that they burn out
don't promote people that don't deserve it, promote the people that do all the hard work

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good exposure to deals and flow.

    Cons

Abusive unprofessional managers. Constant pointless turnover. Stress over being laid off. Long hours and subpar pay unless you are at a very senior level. Rather than pay you, they will remind you how lucky you are to be part of the Goldman dream team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

GS doesn't actually practice anything they preach e.g. excellence, team player, long term greedy etc. The senior guys on my options desk couldn't even identify black-scholes, and yet I saw them callously ruin countless people's careers. Treating young people in a shabby way will come back to haunt you. In my current job, I have steered trading away from GS which has cost them many many many millions. Was that worth an associate's salary? Is that long-term greedy?

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Excellent Brand
    - Good Pay
    - Excellent and brilliant people

    Cons

    - Too much politics
    - Very unpleasant hours (90-120 each week)
    - Good performance of juniors not rewarded and recognized
    - No guidance of the client - the client gets everything, no matter how useless (e.g. translation work)
    - The bigger the client, the larger the deal, the more weekends you spend in office
    - Consider that your life is sold to the bank for the time of your employment
    - No loyalty to employees - the higher you are up the easier you are out

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Pay a little less and hire more people
    - Bear in mind that comments for a pitch at 2:00 a.m. before the presentation are not fun at all - don't do so constantly
