Current Employee – been working at Goodwill part-time for less than a year
Pros – good with scheduling, decent management, come in on time and get your work done, and they'll pretty much leave you alone, you definitively get one weekend off a month. Really lax on callouts and policies.
Cons – Seriously understaffed. Lots of department floating. Can only give 25 hours or 40, no in between. No one wants to run racks of clothing to the floor, yet you run out of racks if they don't get run, the management probably won't tell anyone to run them.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire people. Seriously, you need more than two cashiers on a Saturday.

Current Employee – been working at Goodwill
Pros – Provides excellent training for position, good written policy and procedure manual to ensure understanding of expectations, good benefits, good salary and bonus plan, only retail position offering every other weekend off
Cons – No autonomy for managing store, too many hours when co- manager is off through vacation or illness. Typical retail environment problems : abuse of restrooms, dressing rooms, difficult customers. Lack of appreciation by upper management, lack of input from frontline management to upper management,

Current Employee – been working at Goodwill full-time for less than a year
Pros – The mission. The business experience. The operations experience. What you can learn by paying attention to day-to-day operations of the company.
Cons – Poor pay. Unflexible schedules. Uncooperative management. Disproportionate African American employment. Little room for advancement. Promotions/Raises only happen on a yearly basis.
Advice to Senior Management – The management is not open to ideas or new ways to do things. Most management is so concerned with the bottom line and profits that they miss ideas or new methods that would actually be MORE efficient, and produce higher profits.

Former Employee – worked at Goodwill part-time for more than a year
Pros – Relatively decent pay for no necessary experience, see lots of interesting things, decent amount of freedom at work, customers are usually friendly, and you are doing something valuable for people.
Cons – Management was rough to deal with at times (ultimately why I left), and the few customers that are bad are really bad.
Advice to Senior Management – Go easy on the younger employees who are actually working hard for you. Just because we are young doesn't mean you can push us around so much. Also, if you are a manager at a new store, don't tell long term employees that they don't know what they are doing. Each store has a different rate of business.

Current Employee – been working at Goodwill part-time for more than a year
Pros – Great environment, other employees, the usual customers that come in, supporting the "mission", friendly.
Cons – Hardly any appreciation from the upper level staff or senior regional staff. Regional decisions seem to negatively affect the store rather than helping or improving it. Not much growth and the work is hardly stimulating. It's more for those in the "in between" of life, whether it's high school, college, or beyond, that aren't looking for any particular motivation to move up within the company.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to employees needs and suggestions. Find a way where employees aren't reprimanded for voicing opinions about the company or its management staff.
