    I worked at Goodwill full-time

    Pros

The ability to grow and learn in several areas at one. It's not just sitting at a desk all day, it's also being a part of the community and networking which I enjoy.

    Cons

Not enough vacation time and long days. Hours are 8-5 (which most jobs in this type of office setting is 8-4 or 9-5). I got one week of vacation when I started, but it won't be until the END of year 2 before I earn enough PTO to take barely one week off....and that's if I don't get sick or have to use a vacation day here and there. We get 3 sick days which 3 out of 365 is just not enough. It takes more than 3 days to recover just from a cold or flu!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow more flexibility in the workplace. Let us work from home once a week or flex our hours so that we may be able to enjoy our kids baseball games or have time to just relax once in a while. Work can be very stressful and time consuming - we need time to de-stress!

    I worked at Goodwill

    Pros

GIUMSC is a great company to work for. I worked in management in a retail store. The corporate level has a huge presence in all of the stores. The CEO will personally speak to every employee during his visits and genuinely seems to care about their well being. The work is hard but rewarding. The money made in the retail locations goes towards the company mission to put people back to work. Excellent benefits package. Monthly bonus incentives at all employee levels.

    Cons

Production goals were difficult to meet. High employee turnover. Very very strict attendance policy with little to no leeway. Low rate of pay with high expectations of work. Quantity of donations could get overwhelming since space was limited. Didn't always have the necessary supplies to function. Customers were often rude and difficult. Regular customers have a "we run the place" mentality.

I have been working at Goodwill full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Laid back, relaxed dress code, freedom to be creative with your job.

    Cons

Watching our state taxes go to the wrong people and being able to brush aside your morals to understand others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish we had more holidays, tuition assistance and better pay.

I have been working at Goodwill part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Get to meet all different sorts of people (including a few you'd probably never encounter otherwise)
Great place to hone your people skills
    Supportive and adaptable coworkers

    Cons

Never enough resources to do a job properly. But that's part of being a non-profit, I guess.
Rely heavily on volunteers for many programs, so getting paid to work there is going to be pretty tough

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus efforts on services people need, rather than what you can most easily offer.

I have been working at Goodwill part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good will's mission, culture, time-off policies, benefits and the opportunity to advance to upper management. Decent place to work and the management is very professional.

    Cons

Work every weekend-no life work balance and compensation is a bit low based on the cost of living. In addition, Goodwill needs to find ways to keep store personnel motivated, through contests and prizes.

    Pros

Some of the best parts of the company include: Mission is fabulous. Wonderful co-workers. Competitive salary. Comprehensive benefits. Commitment to development of team members.

    Cons

As is the case with so many non-profits, resource constraints are challenging. Investments need to be made in systems and staffing levels.
