I worked at Goodwill part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They worked around my school schedule, giving me plenty of hours during the school year and letting me work full time in the summer. They actually let people work enough hours to be full time which is better than I can say for a lot of other retail and related jobs, and from what I'm told the benefits aren't terrible.

    Cons

I worked in a little independent donation center on the weekends so possibly this is just unique to my situation, but communication from management was just about non existent. Over the 4 years I was there I can count the number of times I met with my supervisor on two hands. Employee turnover is high. By the time I left I was one of the most senior people I knew. Crazy busy in the summer, crazy slow in the winter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication with the employees who actually interact with your customers is important. When they don't know what to say, customers get the run-around, get frustrated, and then get lost.

I have been working at Goodwill part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great work environment. Friendly staff. Awesome company mission. Flexible hours. Wide range of learning experiences. Very hands on. Learn as you go techniques. Room for creative thinking.

    Cons

It can be a tense environment when planning events. Coworkers can get over stressed and it radiates throughout the workplace. Sometimes it has been hard to communicate with upper management with onongoing issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to share opinions more freely within the workplace involving issues or concerns without fear of being reprimanded or belittled.

    Very Easy Job

I have been working at Goodwill

    Pros

(For the most part) my managers are awesome and give a little overtime when they have it for whoever asks. Its the easiest job you will ever have and sometimes a kind of fun when you get to merchandise (think interior designing). Also, great hours!

    Cons

Complaining customers, cheap customers, people always hassling you for something. But hey, that's just retail in general.

  7.

    Not too shabby at all

    I worked at Goodwill

    Pros

It's nonprofit & actually works toward bettering the community. Goodwill is a big name & has locations across the country, but this review is for the Northern New England chain. Maine, New Hampshire & Vermont. I've been to others & they are /very/ different.

    Cons

There are no benefits for part time or 'casual' employees. Scheduling is messy & communication isn't great. They are not completely interested when it comes to employees' concerns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We live in a place with lots of snow. If everything else in the area is closed, there is no reason to stay open. Communication needs to be worked on as well as consistency across the company. Benefits or incentives or a raise or something would be nice too.

    Cons

There is a disconnect between the CEO and any staff below VP

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

The people are friendly and do care.

    Cons

They need to make it fair to all employees as far as working wise and the ones who does a no call no show should be Terminated as long with the ones who are always late.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to put what the good workers are trying to tell them about other employees who are not doing there part of the job its unfair AND the ones who does a NO call should be Terminated, and always come in late as well.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
