    Pros

    Great money once you hit full pay. When I started it took 1 year. But then it went to 30 months. They match what you put into 401k. Making that much money, its easy to get the best medical plan and other things that they provide. 7 day breaks once a month.

    Cons

    Jobs are touch. I ran 17-2000 row. Anyone who knows the plant knows its hard work. But the money is worth it, if you can hang in there long enough to get it. Long hours. Depending on your job, you become so tired at work, that your days off, you sometimes just want to sleep.

    Pros

    big company with solid pay. benefits are solid, but the insurance premiums are much higher than most.

    Cons

    working sundays in automotive repair is awful, the vendors have trouble getting parts on sundays and it doesn't appear to increase sales, it just has diluted our total sales per day by about 1/7.
    Vice President of company seems to treat people inconsistently...some are held accountable to strict standards while others are not (as long as they are producing)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    close on sundays and concentrate on running the best business possible during the other 6 days. see chic-fil-a

    Pros

    At least at my shop, they were able to work around my school schedule
    Pay is hourly unless you are a flag tech, and there are commission bonus which if you can hit 40 hours is equal to a 5$ raise... for a starting out tech, its not bad but gets old really fast for what you have to deal with
    if you stay for longer than a year, its for the benefits... medical, dental, and vision are out of this world

    Cons

    Management couldn't be worse, everything is bonus driven, and getting new equipment for shops is met with a glacial pace unless your managers will take hits to their store profits... good luck with that
    If you have a tech that has been there for more than 10 years, he runs the shop... the managers are just stooges that cater to his whims
    The ability to get fired without any warnings
    The customers are borderline mentally handicapped
    work is ebb and flow so who knows what you'll be doing week to week
    if you aren't management, you are expendable
    company policy is that you can't have 2 days off in a row

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    eliminate district managers, those guys couldn't lead a store out of a wet paper bag
    treat your service techs and maintenance techs better
    stream line your processes for new equipment
    eliminate middle men, and give us a wage to live on

    Senior managers are only concerned about protecting their bonus, so all decisions are made at very low levels.

    Cons

    Everyone under senior management are treated like second class citizen.

    Pros

    Better than being unemployed! Not a place a person will be able to support your family, really just a stepping stone to better employment.

    Cons

    If your working the night shift there is no life - work balance. Shift premium is 25 years behind the rest of the world. Starting pay is below poverty wages for a two person family, then you get a .25 cent increase after 1st year and .25 cent after second year. At the end of the 3rd year you get a significant increase to top pay. You should be at top pay after one year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat new hires fairly in regards to salary, these are intelligent individuals with machining talents that are disappearing before our eyes. They are the success or failure of your company treat them as such!

    Pros

    The company provides job stability and a lot of options for lateral or vertical movement, if you're willing to wait. There are many different fields that Goodyear operates in and many work options within each.

    Cons

    Overall company culture is male-dominant and traditional because of the nature of the business. Goodyear is an industrial company and the majority of people that are with the company have been in the tire industry for the majority of their career. The company is a very large ship and it changes direction slowly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Having worked with local Goodyear stores on the ground level as well as the corporate office, it's clear that there's a disconnect between the two. Having an advisory team comprised of individuals that work on the center/customer level day-to-day could provide valuable insights to upper-level management who make number based decisions. It's hard to get a full perspective of impact decisions if you don't operate in the field.

    Positive brand recognition helps with getting customers to talk and want to buy product. Well established history excites people and gets them to talk about products.

    Cons

    Sales is a very competitive job and when markets change, goals and expectations should too. Goals should be flexible to account for poor market conditions or loss of customers do to unforeseen complications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make goals a living document allowing for changes to be made to make outcome more realistic. Understand that what happened last year is not a clear defining goal or plan for future sales.

    Pros

    The pay is pretty good. No bonuses for people that aren't managers. New building is really cool. Lots of job opportunities throughout the company.

    Cons

    Opportunities are not in Engineering. Work lots of hours, it seems that if you work an 8-9 hour day and leave you are often called a "part-timer".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    There are LOTS of good jobs (managers, directors, VPs, etc) throughout the company. But, 90% of these are outside Engineering. Engineers have little room for upward movement, but alot within Engineering Groups.
