I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are above average. There are many opportunities and careers in which to seek, and the company is large.

    Cons

The above opportunities are there if one is willing to deftly navigate very political waters. The company says that it is trying to be a fresher, more modern company but still has an ego and an old-school mentality. There is a large schism between what the company says in terms of valuing the employee and work-life balance and what the realities are in terms of how individuals are treated and rewarded. The two are not the same and there is a contradiction almost to a point of hypocrisy as to what is "said" and what is "done"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Really listen. Stand up for the employee when they need the support. Upper-middle management, don't make management afraid to speak up for themselves or the individual contributors who report to them.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Training opportunities abound. Plenty of room for advancement for anyone who doesn't mind hard work. Overall Goodyear is a good company to work for. On a higher level they are a very honest company with high integrity.

    Cons

Poor work/life balance. To achieve decent compensation required to give up home life. Benefits are mediocre at best. Some organizations within the company are rather cutthroat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Certain organizations within the company seem to have no clear direction. Getting everyone on the same page working with the same core values would certainly be a plus to the company.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are positive learning experiences to be had at Goodyear. People are generally friendly and willing to help, especially at the plants.

    Cons

Office politics are hard to avoid. Lots of good leaders leaving because of the caustic culture. Sometimes decisions made are only those that look good, but are not necessarily good for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to reduce the politics of the company. Work to flatten the structure of the company.

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Positive brand recognition helps with getting customers to talk and want to buy product. Well established history excites people and gets them to talk about products.

    Cons

Sales is a very competitive job and when markets change, goals and expectations should too. Goals should be flexible to account for poor market conditions or loss of customers do to unforeseen complications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make goals a living document allowing for changes to be made to make outcome more realistic. Understand that what happened last year is not a clear defining goal or plan for future sales.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great organizational structure. The business centers are staffed like small, independent plants. Good benefits and pay structure. Good training at all levels.

    Cons

Plant manager who yells and screams at his staff in meetings, throws and kicks things, and then expects his staff to be motivated enough to take the hill for him. This is the upper management culture at Goodyear in manufacturing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get involved in some serious culture change at the Plant Manager level. The old school aproach of Win-Lose outcomes eventually lead to Lose-Lose. I know of many good leaders who have left the company because of the leadership at the Plant Manager level.
