I have been working at Google full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are so many people who are recognized world-wide and have their own wikipedia page that you can meet while working at this company. There is also a death benefit, which is when a Google employee passes away, their stock vests immediately, and their surviving spouse receives 50% of their salary for the next 10 years. They really do want to take care of you.

    Cons

This is just the inevitable problem associated with companies that amass a large size and establishment in the market, but it's hard for employees themselves to innovate. Also, there are just too many over-qualified employees at Google who are relegated to simpler roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Regress to the original organization of a startup: zero committees. Everyone must have a voice in innovating.

I have been working at Google part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great workplace, the higher-ups really appreciate the workers. Really a cooperative environment.

    Cons

Facilities are not the best, there could be improvements in the way things are ran.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more organized; improve the workplace overall. Maybe be a little easier on the workers/

I have been working at Google full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

In general, a very talented, Googley workforce - but unfortunately there are still some morons and jerks, but far fewer than other tech companies. The employees are usually very ethical, approachable, and mission-focused. The (well publicized) benefits are top notch, and the comp is at or slightly above industry average IMO. Managers are generally much higher caliber than any other Fortune 500 I've worked at. People actually listen to your ideas no matter your level, as long as you exhibit clear thinking and support your claims. Obviously working here opens up a lot of future doors, and the internal transfer opportunities are varied and numerous (and encouraged). Work-life balance is about as good as you can get for a top tech company (flex hours, less pressure to be a workaholic), and it is a fairly family-friendly company.

    Cons

There are a lot of internal inefficiencies and chaos resulting from weak leadership, flawed in-house tools, and lack of processes/controls. People are straining and working long hours just to keep the lights on, without much time and energy (and motivation) left to innovate. There are maturity and professionalism deficiencies at many levels - I especially hate the lack of ownership at times (people expecting you to do their job, passivity-laziness in planning, amateurish presentation skills). I thought this was Google? Work dedication, clear thinking, and attrition are an issue in my org. But I am coming from the perspective of Global Business and not Engineering - which is the face of Google and may be better run.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We can't survive just on Search forever. Of all the wild projects - let's make sure a few of them succeed and turn a profit at scale. We help billions of people have better lives, but we're not a charity - we need a new breakthrough product that consumers will pay for.

I have been working at Google full-time

    Pros

Ambitious projects, many products actually used by millions of people, certain level of autonomy including good W/L balance, great peaks, top notch salary.

    Cons

Many projects are large and hard to make impact. There are many interesting projects but it's hard to join these unless you have top-level experience to demonstrate. The bottom-up culture conflicts recent top down trend and there are confusion around the ongoing cultural change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent. Be accountable and don't hesitate to admit failures. Focus on real problems instead of something just cool, shoot real target instead of the moon. Figure out how top-down approach fits well to the bottom-up culture. It'd be difficult problem but will be payed off once we solve it.
