    Pros

    - Massive scale. I build user interface tools and libraries for the 50+ iOS teams at Google. - Exciting creative work across a variety of products. On any given week I'll consult with at least three or four different product teams. - Small teams having massive impacts. Many of our iOS teams have fewer than 5 engineers.

    Cons

    - It's a big company - every team at Google has its good and bad side. - Open source for iOS at Google is still just getting started, though things are improving substantially!

    Advice to Management

More focus on mobile hiring strategies. Google has a lot of incredible iOS opportunities and we need to work harder to make that clear!

    Pros

You will work with highly intelligent people who will always encourage you to push yourself and grow. You can learn a lot just from the people who surround you.

    Cons

Though they try to eradicate it, there is still a decent amount of bureaucracy. Also, there are pockets of incivility and bad behavior and Google is not the best yet at identifying and eliminating that behavior.

    Pros

Lively young employee force, great office spaces and increasing presence in the Austin area with new planned office space for 2017.

    Cons

Only three teams are currently in the area (Google for Work sales, Recruiting, Fiber), limiting career mobility within the city. Three office spaces scattered through town, making it hard to form a wide community with other teams and organizations. Google for Work sales reps are never in the office, making the spaces often feel empty.

    Advice to Management

In order to maintain a good presence in the area, it is important to have various teams to keep a lively and collaborative environment.

    Pros

Extremely innovative company culture. Everyone is encouraged to take initiative and create something new. Interns are treated like full-time employees and are given enough freedom to build their own project. Healthy and tasty food for FREE!

    Cons

Google is not the best hardware company. As an optical engineer sometimes I need to run between 3 different labs in a day to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Google is doing a great job in managing software engineers and their projects, but may need tt pay more attention to hardware engineers. For example all courses for interns are aimed for SWE or the like, and I can easily get bored when lured to those courses.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Casual work environment, open-door policy for support, worked with a small group of very intelligent people. Enjoyed the material I got to read while working on the phone application. I enjoyed the flexibility as far as start times. I liked that I could take a day off whenever I needed it. I also liked that I learned from this job that will hopefully with the next one.

    Cons

Not enough room for growth. Had good leadership up until transitioning to a new leadership, then I felt the team fell apart by that point. There was hardly any bond as far as far as the team was concerned. NICE people, but everyone was in their own world and hardly engaged with one another except in weekly meetings. Felt that the vendor was poorly misinformed of what was going on and didn't really take the time to understand our process in order to help us when numbers were low. Felt that the review process was counter-productive in that our work was reviewed by several different individuals with different approaches to how they tackled the work versus how we learned to do the job. It should be one consistent person whose style the writers can adapt to so not to be confused when you've made it so far in the job and get a low score on your performance.

    Advice to Management

CONSISTENCY! I encourage you to look up that word and think about how that can apply to your work environment. There seems to be a lack of it. LEADERSHIP. At some point I felt the lack of leadership was what made the team and the work fall apart. Encourage your employees to do better by rewarding them. Don't just wait til they drop in numbers to say something. Focus on the positive effort.

    Pros

Very open atmosphere. They have everything you might ever need and more. 20+ cafes to eat at, all very good.

    Cons

Very fast paced. You have to be smart to keep up with everyone else and invest yourself in the company.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing well. I have no issues with the way management is run. My boss personally was spectacular.
