    Frustrated

    N/A (Current Employee)

ProsDiscount is good, as their prices are low.

ConsChanges are good, if you know what to expect. The company has hired so many new people at the Corp. HQ that they want to make so many changes so fast that it has created termoil all the way to the store level. There is a saying: too many chiefs not enough indians. This company should have learned from their past!

Advice to Senior ManagementNot enough training time, but know that your hands are tied.

Still learning about "big retail", not yet a "JC Penney"

Cashier, Sales Associate (Former Employee) Avon, IN

Prosmost co workers were pleasant, most of management was nice, not a tense atmosphere

Conssome management was difficult to work with, doesn't allow back-stock so you're forced to spend hours just trying to get merchandise out, your job title isn't what you will be doing, you will be doing a little bit of everything, promotions don't go to those who deserve it, don't work hard and think you'll get that "lead" position - they will just hire someone else for it

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to those co workers who, although aren't the loudest, work the hardest and fastest. Don't get uptight about certain merchandise presentations if it isn't violating corporates layout

    Its ok part time job

Cashier, Sales Associate (Current Employee) Minot, ND

Prosemployee discount, manager and assistant manager are good people

Conssome supervisors on a real power kick, dont feel the corp cares much for their employees due to cut off hours leaving people with loss of income during slow periods, i feel the company penny pinches giving people a lunch and only one 15 min break if putting in 7.5 hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think there stuck between a rock and a hard place. Caring people stuck between the employees and a corporate headquarters who doesnt care about employees. Good Luck

Gordmans continues to become a top "worst places to work for" kind of business.

    Sales Lead Associate (Former Employee)

ProsDiscount was ok. Some of the other employees were fun to work with.

ConsNot enough employees on the sales floor to take care of the guests. Expected to push freight, cashier and help guests. Most other companies have their own stock crews so the floor associates can focus on the shoppers. Management was always overworked due to the staffing. Good, long term employees and managers are being let go and getting replaced with lower salaried, inexperienced newcomers.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs Gordmans continues to expand by opening more and more stores they are cutting back where it is needed most...their employees. This company used to be great to work for. But it seems over the past few years they have turned to using bad practices. The best companies in the country know that treating their employees well is the best way to gain the best long term advantages.

    Not corporate

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ConsThe job was too much of a load

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to disperse work load better.

    ehhh

    Department Lead (Current Employee)

ProsAssociates are usually fun, guests can be friendly. Associate discount.Great experience.

ConsHours are horrible. Hard to get requested day off. Managers don't speak/work with each other. One will tell us one thing, the other will tell us another thing. Not enough associates..they cut part time hours a lot.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop cutting hours and accept associate days off.

    Can be fun...

Sales Associate (Current Employee) Nampa, ID

ProsIt definitely is the most laid back place I have ever worked. They really do try and make sure the associates have fun and get included.

ConsThe hours are always terrible. And even when the hours are not good they continue to hire more people. The communication between leads, managers and associates is never ideal as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo more to include associates and learn to communicate better. Nothing ever gets relayed to associates unless they are there every day. Especially with changes to registers or how things are done. Write up a memo ANY time there is a change in the way things work. It will keep a lot of things running more smoothly instead of leaving the associates feeling inadequate with that they are doing or getting them into trouble.
