I worked at Gordmans part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I enjoyed working here. I liked my co workers and the discount. Scheduling was very flexible which was nice with my full time job. Some weeks I had no availability and some weeks I had a lot and it worked out.

    Cons

The signs regarding price were confusing to customers. Hard to search for prices when tags fall off. Low quality clothes. Pay on the low side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the quality on some of the merchandise. Raise pay a bt.

I worked at Gordmans part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

there were lots of chances to learn new things and change positions. You were always busy,Had very good managers who are willing to teach and are willing to jump in and help when needed. The managers are willing to work around your school schedule and was very easy to get hours if willing to work hard. employee discount is good too.

    Cons

hard to get promoted unless willing to switch to other stores, no benefits for part timers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

offer benefits for part timers and give more chances for promotions

I have been working at Gordmans part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The employee discount. It can be a fun place to work when you are not short handed. Everyone seems to get along really well.

    Cons

Hours are constantly being cut; employees are leaving because it is so stressful to work there. There is no reason we should be at the store until midnight on the weekends. The schedule only comes out 4-5 days in advance making it very stressful to have to work around another job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to what is going on at each of your stores. Hours keep getting cut and we are constantly short staffed because our payroll is "limited". There is no way that we are not reaching our goals when we are constantly busy and a lot of times the #1 store in the company. The schedules need to be done at least 2 weeks in advance and not 4-5 days.

I have been working at Gordmans part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Able to move up in positions, Good raise opportunities

    Cons

Some managers seem to create very confusing schedules, hours are cut dramatically after the holidays. I went from 35+ to 5 hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to care about employees more, to give more than a 2 or 3 hour shift. If someone is obviously doing an outstanding job and going above & beyond, they should receive some sort of praise for that.

I have been working at Gordmans part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The managers are nice and the schedule can be flexible you will have lots of opportunities to make extra money (extra hours, credit card sign ups) and if you do your job well then you have the chance to move up in this company

    Cons

There are always issues with scheduling, registers, customers. The worst part is that gordmans is always trying new things and they roll them out before testing everything and the employees have to suffer when things don't work and the customers are mad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your lower lower level employees more instead of talking to just the managers because they will tell you everything is perfect when it is not.

I have been working at Gordmans

    Pros

If you work hard and deliver results and can relocate they opportunities are really endless. They truly care about there associates, but does depend on the management at each location. Corporate holds development days several times a year at there corporate office to help better the best or high potential members of management. They spend lots of time trying to help train associates better. They really listen and value new ideas. They truly want every guest and associate to enjoy there time at Gordmans! It's refreshing to see things from the corporate level where they are trying to implement all the tools for success.

    Cons

The training can be overwhelming, but can just as soon as you learn a new process they either change it or make two others. I understand they are growing so fast but test ideas or methods a little longer before rolling out. The hours needed to work for real success is insane. It's unfortunate they don't realize what it takes to be a successful store. A few potential associates do get over looked if they don't match 100% what they are looking for which is sad. Extremely different upper managers depending on location. The amount of freight and tasks are crazy. The presentation procedures is 100 pages long and is always changing so others get frustrated easy because of all the company changes. Just understand the company is awesome but they are growing so fast that they are trying to update everything to be able to grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use the tools corporate gives ( g-cards, scratch offs, and personal encouragement) and keep a positive attitude and your team will be much better off.

I have been working at Gordmans part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The discount is good and when a clearance event is going on or an extra discount event happens its even better. Co workers are nice and usually funny. Flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Most of the positions are on your feet. Shoppers can be very mean. Third party coupons are annoying as the store doesn't accept them. Understaffed often. Too much stuff is in the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the key chain card for G-rewards and have more staff scheduled.

I worked at Gordmans part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Great coworkers.

Upper management was very good about assigning tasks and leaving you to it, but were there if you needed direction.

It was refreshing to be trusted to do my job right and not have a manager constantly hovering over me as I work.

    Cons

Regular no-show and/or under staffing would mean that I would get calls on my days off to come in to work.

When the company was opening two new Twin Cities stores our store was depleted of some really great people (Ashley Davis and Jason Baker to name a few). It wasn't the same without them and one of the replacement managers they hired was awful. Thankfully she wasn't there long.

There really aren't any opportunities to move up unless one of the 5 or so floor manager positions open up. For me, this job got me through college and I never intended to continue my career there.
